I'm out of the mainstream pop loop.

I only know The Alex Clare and Psy songs.

Wow those suck. Good Time is the only one I like to listen to on the radio. Gangnam Style is a funny video but not good on radio.

This.

Fun. isn't always the style I like but they're actually good musicians, used to be The Format and I saw them when they opened for Manchester Orchestra at the Grog Shop and they were great.

We play KISS at work on the radio all day...i've heard every one of these songs over, and over, and over and over again. It's fucking miserable.

When I hear the Taylor Swift Never getting back together song I want to kill someone.

This thread confirms what is wrong with society today, they don't know what REAL music is, so they listen to a bunch of wannabe musicians that can't sing or create a song with any substance.

Please tell me what "real" music is?

To be clear, 9/10 of the songs on this list aren't good.

I have only heard of 2 of these songs. The "whistle song" and the first Taylor Swift song. Hmm.. I'm old.

Music that is made by the same musicians who perform it.

By made I'm assuming you mean written and in that case then it's almost assured that a decent amount of whatever past music password was going to use to illustrate how much better popular music was back in his day was also not written by the performers.

I don't like that practice either but it is nowhere near a new trend.

I will go with 10/10 of the songs are not good.
Real music to me would be along the lines of,

Rolling Stones
The Who
Chuck Berry
Bob Seger
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Bo Diddley
Marvin Gaye
Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix
AC/DC
and there are many more bands that were more talented than any of those groups listed in this thread. Some of the groups listed in the thread may be considered good entertainers, but the are not considered great musicians or musical groups.

I'd disagree some of those are good at all.

Generally anytime someone says "real" music or "real" sports or "real" Americans or whatever it's followed by at best a grossly out of touch viewpoint and sometimes just monumentally stupid statements.

There's silly amounts of amazing music being made right now, go find it. Here's a decent place to start: http://pitchfork.com/features/staff-lists/7706-the-top-200-albums-of-the-2000s-200-151/
