Hears a neighbor cry for help @ 1AM, grabs his gun and goes outside to open fire on a masked man in her driveway. Turns out to be his 15-yr old son.
This is why I don't own a gun. Can't imagine I'd be so careless, but I don't think any civilian (and some cops, apparently) knows how they'd really react in a similar situation. Even supposedly trained cops get it wrong.
To me the problem is a gun emboldens people to confront situations they have no business putting themselves into.
Well, apparently it was self-defense and the teen went at him with a shiny weapon in his hand. I guess the shocking thing in this is that no one called the police first?!?

The whole story is messed up...according to this link:

It was the guy's sister that called her father.

So her brother was breaking into her house and the dad shot him? Sounds like Darwinism to me.Manhattan Buckeye;1282421 wrote:The whole story is messed up...according to this link:

I think it was the aunt, the shooter's sister.
But I agree with your general point. There's harmless pranking and there's stupid pranking.

Father's sister, boy's aunt. Just appears to be new/more info and not conflicting in any way.
Turn all the lights on at both houses and call the police. I mean, wtf?

Prank? Maybe, I'm interested to know what the "shiny weapon" was. If it's a real weapon, I'm not sure I'd expect it to be a prank. What I would expect was a real robbery, probably because he knew what valuables the aunt had and where they would be.

Plus the story I saw said the kid lunged at him with the weapon. Either way, that would be horrible.gut;1282433 wrote:Prank? Maybe, I'm interested to know what the "shiny weapon" was. 10 to 1 after the stories of "great kid" in the immediate aftermath subside it will emerge that this was a troubled teen, probably addicted to drugs. Bath salts is the early favorite.BR1986FB;1282454 wrote:Plus the story I saw said the kid lunged at him with the weapon. Either way, that would be horrible.

The only way I'm firing is if the bad guy is IN my house, or has pulled a gun (or another deadly weapon) on someone. Masked or not, he should not have fired at a guy in the neighbor's driveway unless a life was threatened.gut;1282428 wrote:Father's sister, boy's aunt.
