I can't imagine letting myself get "trapped" in a corner by a guy missing multiple limbs in a wheel chair. I'd be all like "hey, partner, come pull this guy away from, would ya?"

How does someone in a wheelchair with one arm corner you and try to stab you with a pen? Wouldn't he need to stop moving his chair to stab with the pen?

I'm not justifying it, because it's fucked up regardless, but the article makes it seem like they couldn't tell what was in his hand?

Correct. Instead of just wheeling him away he shot him in the head. Sounds like a reasonable alternative. :rolleyes:

Yes, from what it said, he wouldn't show his hands (hand?).

That's just asking to be shot when in a confrontation with most cops.

If this guy would have just listened to the officers orders and put down his "weapon" then he wouldn't have been shot.

Not sure if you're being facetious or not, but what you stated is correct.

The problem is the patient was mentally unstable and either not able or not willing to comply. Better officer training would have helped them to more quickly make that decision.

While I agree the officer was likely in the wrong here, to be fair...
The officers were responding to a report that [the man] was acting aggressively.

Police said Claunch was clutching an object as he advanced on one of the police officers.

The officers made verbal commands for the suspect to drop whatever he had in his hand, to stay still and to speak with the officers, but the suspect continued to make threats.

Claunch trapped one officer with his wheelchair in the corner of a room "where he couldn't get out,"

As he advanced toward the officers, Claunch was "refusing to show his hands,"
While I don't condone the action of the Officer, I'm okay with it.

Unless it was an electric wheelchair, I'm not buying that a one armed man advanced on officers with something in his hand that they couldn't see.
