Am I the only one who thinks this is ridiculous? If the coverage of it was limited to when it happened on Sunday then fine, but of course ESPN, in their typical fashion have blown it up. Here it is Thursday and they had Brian Billick on Mike & Mike discussing it this morning. I was half-asleep watching PTI last night but they were discussing how Jerry Jones thinks the kneel-down is wasted play and the team should have to make a play.

First of all, Tom Coughlin needs to fuck off. Oh, the Giants are going to kneel-down, everyone should just stop trying.

Secondly, Jerry Jones needs to fuck off. I'd like to see the look on his face when the Cowboys are up by 21 with four seconds left and DeMarco Murry has to take a hand-off and gets laid out. Or the look on ANY owner's face when this happens to a player. Great idea, genius. Maybe he should stick to worrying about his own miserable team.

Third, the kneel-down play has essentially been uneventful for how long? But when Manning basically trips and falls on his ass, then there's countless debates with everyone under the sun whether the kneel-down is good for football or not.

tl;dr version - ESPN sucks, Jerry Jones sucks, Tom Coughlin sucks.

Haha I forgot who was on ESPN radio yesterday around 6pm because that is basically what they said. There example was when there is 10 seconds left and they are on there own 10 yard and the offense is down by 7 they aren't just going to kneel it and take defeat they are going to do some short pass and try and lateral it around and run it in for a score.

Also for all the people who complain about injuries... injuries can happen anytime. Golic said it best this morning... in goal line situations the defense is low just like the Bucs were so what does the oline normall do... get low as well. O-Line are supposed to be the smartest people on the field so if they see the defnese get low shouldn't that trigger something in their hands that maybe they sould as well?

As for Jerry Jones he just needs to be quiet.

It was a bush league move at any level. But I understand the other side of the argument.

I just saw the play for the first time last night. I think it was a shitty move as well. Seemed like something a pee-wee coach would try. Coughlin had every right to be pissed.

I like the Arena Football rule, the team with the lead must gain positive yardage or else the clock stops (this is only at the end of the game).

I don't like any rule that changes just because it's the end. Kneel-down included. Just make it so you have to be tackled like EVERY OTHER PLAY OF THE GAME.

During the Dal/TB game yesterday there was a video montage showing where this strategy worked at Rutgers over the years and they had been able to get the other team to fumble. Schiano was quoted as saying it worked 5 times in 5 years but it seems like his teams did it quite often. Nothing wrong with it now that teams have seen it, just prepare for this to happen if you're winning against them at the end of the game...

Technically I think you can "give yourself up" and don't have to be tackled to be ruled down. That's how the kneel down works, it counts as a give up.

QBs are allowed to slide and it's an automatic down. Also, if you eliminate the kneel down, QBs can just dive on the ground, and as soon as they are touched, the play is dead.

Yep you can. But with the replacement refs right now that doesn't matter. In the Chiefs/Saints or Titans/Lions game(I forget which one it was lol but pretty sure it was a Chiefs player) a player caught a screen pass then went down and injured himself and made no attempt to get up and then rolled onto his back and just let go of the ball. They called it a fumble when really he should have been called down.

I remeber this from last year when Cruz did it against the Cowboys. He just went down and put the ball down and the Cowboys recovered it but they said he gave himself up so the Giants retained possession.

Sure. But the slide is consistent the whole game. Unlike a "give yourself up" which can be subjective. If a RB kneeled down in the middle of the 3rd quarter, he surely would get blasted. Would that be a penalty then? Since he gave himself up?

I agree with your last statement. That is consistent with the rules for the rest of the game.

That has nothing to do with the replacement refs. That same thing has happened with regular refs.

Really when? I've rarely seen it happen when a player just gives himself up besides a QB doing it. The only other time besides yesterday were I knew this had happened before the regular refs made the correct call(The Cruz situation from last year).

I know I've seen guys fumble because of injury, and it's called a fumble. Sorry, I don't have any to cite. But I know it's happened.
