Salem heads back to Reilly Stadium for their home opener against Niles.
These 2 share a common opponent already, with Salem losing to Liberty 21-17, and Niles beating them 12-6.
Salem's other loss was to United (35-28), and Niles also beat Girard (34-13).
Apparently this is also the MyYTV game of the week, and will be on tape delay at 10PM Friday.

No clue on why they would want to show a blow out on tape delay but Niles by at least 2 scores.

I am also surprised that it is the game of the week, interesting. We know Niles is huge up front, but still only mustered 12 points vs. Liberty, while Salem scored 17 against Liberty. It appears Niles defends well against the run (because that is all Liberty can really do), with 8 in the box most of the time. Salem's short passing game is probably better than its run game, so hopefully they can play on that and chew up some possession time, and maybe finish some drives. If it is somewhat of a low scoring game we should have a chance.

Call me crazy but the more i think about this game if Salem makes niles throw the football they can come away with an upset. Niles doesnt have a great secondary, and got tourched in their campbell scrimmage against a weaker campbell team then the last 2 seasons.

On paper this should be a blowout. If Niles can eliminate turnovers and play inspired football..... Salem is again roadkill for the third week in the roll. Salem picked a very decent coach. Just give him time. He should make a name for himself.Ohio;1260709 wrote:No clue on why they would want to show a blow out on tape delay but Niles by at least 2 scores.
With that being said, I like the Dragons in this one. Big time. Give us 4 consistent quarters and the game shouldn't even be close.
Best of luck Dragons.
Scorch em a new one.
Go Niles
Beat the Quakers!!!

Niles with the 41-23 win.
All of Salem's points were against Niles' backups (it was 34-0 at the half, 41-0 early 3rd). They put the starters back in to stop the bleeding in the 4th which makes it look like Salem didn't get absolutely plowed.

I don't blame the players for this loss. They seemed very ill prepared for the game. Niles has very talented and big offensive and defensive lines, but when your quarterback can't even take a quick, three step drop without somebody getting a hand on him, something is wrong. I know it's early in Johnson's tenure, but I hope we're not looking at a repeat of the Miller years.ts1227;1264415 wrote:Niles with the 41-23 win.

Not even close, Johnson is the real deal. Everyone needs to realize that we are essentially playing with a JV offense - age-wise. Our O-line is a freshman (center) flanked by two sophomores and two juniors, with a soph QB and underclass RB's with a couple senior wide outs. That is basically a JV offense and its no one's fault it is just the way the personnel lines up this year with the players out there. You can't be critical because it is all just youth and inexperience; it is what it is. When you are playing freshmen and sophomores against seniors (in Niles' case - HUGE seniors) you are going to have problems controlling the O-line no matter if Woody Hayes was the coach. These kids are playing hard, they care, they will improve greatly this year. They like the coach and they understand where he is taking them. He is going to do very well at Salem in the future and the kids will have success.
Had to laugh at some Niles' comments about us keeping our first team offense in during the second half (again, freshmen, sophs etc..)who did they want us to bring in - the 8th graders?

Oats: Only time will tell. I know that Johnson is trying to develop a program and get involved with even the very young teams in the schools and community. I hope you're right about him.

Plus he came in late in the offseason.QuakerOats;1264694 wrote:Not even close, Johnson is the real deal. Everyone needs to realize that we are essentially playing with a JV offense - age-wise. I agree Oats...Salem is playing with pretty much a JV offense and on top of that there is a serious lack of talent. Being young is going to hurt you this year but having little talent will hurt you for a few years and again that isn't anyone's fault. Talent comes in cycles.
