I generally don't get into my personal life on the internets, but I could really use some input. My wife graduated from medical school 7 months ago and had to move to Akron for her residency . . . I've been commuting between Columbus and Akron ever since.

I recently secured a job in the Painesville/Concord area and we need to find a place to live within the next few weeks (my wife currently lives w/ her parents in Medina).

Any suggestions on an city/suburb/area/neighborhood that is about halfway between Painesville and Akron . . . we don't know the area at all, but it looks like something just off of 271 makes sense . . .a 40 minute commute is expected.

Orange, Bedford, Macedonia . . . . any particular neighborhoods?

Not sure of your overall finances, but Orange could be a little expensive. Not much in rentals that you would like, I think. There are some foreclosures there in your price range, but hard to tocuh anything for less than $200K (I coach at Orange HS, btw). It is an in-demand area and prices have held up pretty well.

I work my "real" job in the Northfield/Macedonia area-- about 35 minutes to Painesville...not that close, imo, but clloser to Akron. Lots of new construction under $175K and decent middle-aged housing stock between $125-4150K.

Mayfield Hts puts you right on 271 east to Lake County (via 90) and south to Akron area. Bedofrd would not be a good choice, imo.

West side=Big time snow!! But if you dont have a choice, do what you got to do. Id say as far away from the lake as possible, to avoid the harsh Winter snowstorms.

The info above is backwards. West of Cleveland gets far less snow than East. If you're looking in the East/Southeast suburbs be ready for some snow. Some really nice areas on that side of town would be Chagrin, Pepper Pike, and Mayfield. None of which are particularly cheap.

Wrong. West side gets far less snow than the East Side. Primary snow belt is Mentor/Painesville/Chardon and east from there (Ashtabula county)
There is also a secondary snow belt that hits Northfield/Twinsburg / Aurora/Macedonia at times, and sometimes shifts toward Medina/Brunswick.
Eastern Cuyahoga-- Mayfield Hts/Lyndhurst/Beachwood gets pretty good snowfall due to elevation.
I am in Cleveland Hts, folks are in Mayfield and one brother in Westlake-- not unusual for us to get 1-2", him to get nothing but a trace and parents to get 4"

Hudson is a great community and Solon isn't bad either.

Yes, I was absolutely thinking backwards. (again). The snow is the East side. Unfortionately I think he is looking on the East side. I still say stay away from the lakefront.

Get in that big money Hudson neighborhood.

Agreed Hudson/Stow is a really nice area to live but that would be much closer to Akron and one hell of a commute to Painesville if the OP is looking for a happy medium.

Well, as I indicated in the first post, I'll be working on the Painesville area, so I realy can't choose to "avoid the snow."
