A 6-4 loss is best case scenario IMO.

2nd and 3rd strikes were both low.

Cueto gives up a 2 run homer to Ramirez, 2-0 brewers

Yay. No hit over. And at the same time the pirates give up a 3 run homer.

Brewers get a big insurance run to make it 3-1 after a lead-off double by Weeks. Both Cozart and Rolen had a shot to throw out Weeks ant 3rd with no out, and home with one out, but both passed on difficult chances to take a much more sure out. I think both made the correct decisions. One of my favorite things about baseball - both the pre-pitch thinking and strategy, and then the decision making and execution that happens after the ball is put in play.

Reds all of a sudden can't score....but fortunately they have a guy hitting .381 with 10 runs and 5 RBI his last 8 starts.

Also is at .324 his last 23 starts with 20 runs.

You knew they'd come back to earth. But getting Joey back will be huge. The lineup SHOULD change around and hopefully guys get it going again.

I'm more concerned with the lack of good starts from the starters lately. Not Cueto tonight, he did what he needed to do. Wasn't perfect but was solid

Yes, when the starters started going south, the typical thing happened that does when you are hot - when pitching lets down hitting and other circumstances bail you out for some more wins, but that phase of it seems to be over now. Fortunate that Pirates and Cards both lost tonight. Time for Joey to be back and see if the offense can be sparked. I was impressed with them going the other way, even Cozart, with Aoki making good play after good play out there playing the balls down the line and in foul territory very well and even almost threw out Cozart going to 3rd in the inning the Reds scored.

Nothing to fear. Cards won, what, 12 of 17 or something like that? They haven't gained dirt on the Reds. I said when Votto went down that the Reds wouldn't lose ground and it appears to be coming true. I haven't really rooted for the Reds since my hero Tom Seaver pitched for them but you have to give them credit. They are playing really good ball right now and the Cardinals are showing the frustration. Local newspaper here is beginning to shift attention to the Rams and Missouri. What does that tell you?

I just wish when the offense was struggling, more guys would take pitches. Get in better hitters counts. Tonight, they were getting dominated by the opposing pitcher, yet still first pitch swinging. Not all of them were good pitches to swing at either.

I think it's about time for us to stop hoping they(the team as a whole)start getting patient at the plate.
