I havent used my account for a little while and I logged in today and I got a notice saying I need to provide some additional information in order to validate my account

Aug 5, 2012: As of April, 2012, new Federal Regulations require Money Service Businesses, such as PayPal, to verify the identity of a customer before we can provide various services or product offerings. As a result, PayPal must ensure we have collected and verified important data such as customer name, address, date of birth, and national tax ID or social security number. Because we were not able to fully confirm your identity based on your current account information, we need to request additional supporting documentation from you.
That was copied from their site so it must be legit. Just wondering if any of you have had to do this.

Kinda feels weird to have to send a copy of my license in (for photo id), provide a proof of address, or a proof of SSN.

Used it today and I don't think i've ever had to send anything to them. Do you have a verified bank account on your Paypal account?

Weird that they would need more verification than that.

I'm betting it has to do with the 1099 tax forms. * Google "1099 paypal tax form"

If you've ever used Paypal to collect money for online sales. Guessing has to do with the 1099 form.

(Paypal want you to provide more info so the IRS can get their $$, if you qualify.)

I use Paypal pretty regularly and never heard of that type of authorization. I would call. Their customer service is quality.

Because it's an awful service and company that acts like a pseudo bank but doesn't have to follow most of the rules that a regular bank does. It's pretty common to hear of them freezing people's money and such for really arbitrary reasons.

This is definitely true, but it's almost always the result of either an unusually large transaction or an unusually large number of transactions. Being in digital marketing, you can imagine that most the guys I do business with have had run-ins with them on product launches and such.

Still, for day-to-day stuff, I've never once had an issue with them.

I prefer Amazon or Google's service when it's an option. I'll use Paypal but not if anything else is available.

Apparently, "avoiding like the plague" means still using something when it's convenient lol.

Well I mean, we have medicine's for bubonic plague now. I'd rather not get it but if it comes down to either getting the plague or not getting an item I want off the internet then I'm definitely getting the plague.
