Anyone out there caught any of his telecasts? The absolute biggest homer ever. The best part of listening to him is NOT hearing him during very long periods of dead air. Wonder if he wears a cheerleaders outfit. MLB and ESPN mock him often. Makes one wonder why he has the job. And, he adds no insight or color to the game.

Used to listen to him a lot back when the Braves(TBS), and Cubs/White Sox(WGN) were the only teams on TV on a regular basis. Didn't bother me back then, but I was young, and liked the White Sox.

Hate him. Mariners were playing at Chicago. After listening to him scream stretch on a routine flyball I realized he was the worst.

Most people can't stand him. To me, Hawk is very entertaining. He is a blatent homer but who cares? The White Sox sign his checks. I like listening to him.

Have not been able to stand him since he first began broadcasting....what?.....30 years ago?

I think he's just bitter since the Red Sox traded him to the Indians.

A couple years ago, the Pirates were at Chicago and the game was on WGN. Buerle was pitching for them and just killing Pittsburgh. I heard "HE GONE" a lot of time and got more pissed off each time.

So when I saw a thread about that fuck, I figured he had a heart attack or died somehow. Which means I'm currently disappointed. Bastard's still standing... :(

We care. And it's not because he's a homer. It's because he's annoying as hell.

Hawk the worst? Come on. Sox fans love him. And who are we to chastise? We put up with the absolute worst ever....for 30 years...in Herb Score. My dog would have done better doing the bark the bark commentary.

Herb Score? No comparison! Score, besides being a nice guy, was more of an announcer than an out and out cheerleader. Living in Ohio but a Tiger fan, I often watched and/or listened to Indian broadcasts. Score showed much respect and love for the game. Hawk? Its all about "us". His partner Steve Stone, brings some civility to the Sox telecast. A strange side-note. The Cubs fired Stone because he told it like it was; often critisizing them.

True, Herb was a nice guy. And the only reason why they hired Herbie was because he was a nice guy...well that and the fact they felt sorry for him for having his playing career cut short.

Most people that are commenting, do not remember Herb's first 5 years. He was beyond pathetic and the laughingstock of baseball. Grammar, inflection, pronounciation, actual play by play....a junior high kid would have done better.

Over the years, he finally relaxed and improved...a whole lot in fact. But even then he was subpar by industry standards.

People diss on Matt Underwood and rightfully so. Well Matt Underwood was better than Herb Score...by a wide margin.

Hawk Harrelson is f***ing horrible. Honestly he is the worse. I was watching a Tigers-White Sox game earlier this season and Peralta hit a homer to take the lead and he got so upset that he stopped announcing. He literally just sat there silently all game

Hawk is a homer, opinionated and grating to listen to.

That said, I really believe that if he were calling the games for the Reds or Indians we would be among his biggest supporters. I often watch the Sox games just to hear his reaction when the sox don't play well or lose. Unfortunately, that isn't very often. Ventura has done a great job with them this year and they seem to have the right mix of veterans and rookies on the South Side this year.

"He gone" and "Rack 'em up" are annoying, to be sure, but nothing compares to his histrionics when one of the Sox hits a home run or, God forbid, has a walk-off hit. He makes Tom Hamilton's home run calls seem subdued to say the least.

Bottom line, he is employed by the White Sox to make the games entertaining (he does) and to be a big cheerleader for the home team (he really does). As much as I dislike some of his craziness, he is definitely a drawing card and never dull.

And if you don't like his style you're probably jealous because your favorite team's TV announcer is as exciting as granola.
