So has anyone had the wonderful experience of getting phone calls asking for you saying they have your address but need to verify it so they can delivery important papers because you are part of an investigation?

i have some douche calling me, been a few years now actually, because he has my name (its not me, middle initial isnt even right) and my birthday (for a guy twice my age) and my address (in a town i have never been to) and he got my information from a relative (who doesnt exist). i never give him anything but try to play along enough to try and figure out who he is etc.

anyone experience anything similar and how did you deal with it?

When we had a phone at the house would get these occasionally. I used to give them addresses to the police station. Since we got rid of the home phone dont receive them anymore.

oh man... I had one a few years ago that actually freaked me out a little. They had my old bank account info, my social, my address, etc... and said that I had some unpaid internet pay-day loan. I obv didn't have said loan, but the fact they had all my info freaked the shit out of me. I politely told them to suck my ass and got new credit cards and checking account. They were pretty persistent too - they'd call like once every day, and sometimes they would yell and cuss. They kept saying they had some affidavit or something saying I needed to pay, and I politely would ask them to show me all documentation, and they would tell me to fuck off lol. It got old quick though. Not much you can do though because they'd call from a new # every time and they had no address, so you just had to kinda wait it out.

oh - also, about once a week now I get a guy trying to sell me some home protection bull shit. I've screamed at that mother fucker a million times, but he just keeps calling, each time from a different #. I am on the do not call registry and have told them so, but no success. So the last time he called I pretended to be an old woman and said "sunny, I think I just pooped my pants. Would you like a blowjob?" I waited for him to answer, but he hung up and hasn't called back.

Tell them to hold then kep them on hold long enough that they don't hang up, then repeat as many times as you can. Time is money in their "biz".

douche keeps calling me from 330-597-3640 if anyone wants to have fun with him.

the guy keeps saying he has my address. i didnt get a chance to say it, but i wanted to say, "why not just go to that address and knock on my door then?"

Yea, I tell them to f*ck off. One bitch even got all loud one time, mentioning possible legal action. I told her send me the court papers. I asked for contact information of the legal representation and got nothing.
These vultures of telemarketing/ old collection debts can come up anywhere.

I hate when these people call. One of them called about a debt I supposedly owed in a state I hadn't lived in for more than a decade. Unfortunately, it went on our credit report. I found it to be more cost-effective to pay the $250 or whatever it was and then dispute it on the credit report, rather than walking around with the black mark. Annoying. These people really get under my skin.

Sounds like one or more of you could be a victim of fraud. Believe it or not, that could be legit creditors calling you because someone ran-up charges after stealing your identity. In most cases, if they have that much info there's no need to call you to do serious damage with what they already have.

Ask for their name/ID, a case number, company name and contact number. Then go check them out online to decide if they are legit - find a number to call and then reference the case number.

You should have disputed it (this can be done right from your credit report online). If it's not legit (i.e. fraud or a mistake), they'd have to provide documentation to legitimize their claim. In most cases, especially if the debt hasn't been sold to a collection agency, $250 isn't worth their resources.

It was a real hassle, but after digging around in my records, I believe the claim was legitimate from an ER visit I made years prior that was never billed (or the bill was sent to the wrong address, and they never bothered trying to look me up). It was something I think I could've disputed and fought, but instead, paying $250 and getting it taken off my credit report was worth more than spending hours tracking it down and fighting it.

thats exactly what happens with me. he starts getting agitated when i dont give him the information. i am 29 and the guy they are looking for is 70 something, so i asked him if i sound that old and he said no. but then changed the subject when i asked why he keeps calling then.

My guess is he just connects to whatever number the system connects him to. Until the issue is resolved and your number is deleted it will just keep cycling back thru their system.

Fair enough. You didn't really get scammed or cheated then, but I know the feeling when you get an old bill like that you can't remember if you had paid or not.

It seems like a get this call every few months. I even remember about 2-3 years ago googling the guy they claimed I was and looking up the address. I even checked with my dad who was doing our family tree at the time just to make sure there were no unknown relatives in that area.
