Michigan has great golf.
My bro lived there for 6 months. He hated every second of it. There isn't much to do, but he did say the downtown area was fairly decent. I visited once and we hit a nice lil tapas place down around the arena.

I don't think that Battle Creek is too far from there. Kellogg's cereal is located there. I'm sure they probably have some kind of museum or something if you're into that sort of thing.

The Meanwhile Bar (1005 Wealthy St SE / Grand Rapids, MI / 49506) -
The Meanwhile Bar is a neighborhood bar that opened two years ago and has quickly gathered a dedicated following. It feels like a neighborhood bar with a cozy atmosphere (lots of red and art by local artists on the walls), a jukebox, and a pinball machine. It can get a little smoky and loud, but a patio out back makes for a nice break from the smoke. The Meanwhile Bar features a full bar with lots of Michigan beers (including Founders and Bell's) on tap as well as specialty drinks such as the Vern Ehlers (Jameson and Vernors). In addition, it offers cheap beers from PBR, Old Style, and Schlitz with a variety of rotating specials. It has developed a dedicated following with events such as the Meanwhile Film Series (showing cult films at the nearby Wealthy Theatre) and with frequent benefit nights for area non-profits. The Meanwhile Bar is a great bar if you are looking for a break from the standard bar culture and it is definitely one of the top 3 bars in Grand Rapids.
Hopcat (25 Ionia Ave NW / Grand Rapids, MI / 49503)
Hopcat is the bar to go for beer enthusiasts and is by far the best bar in downtown Grand Rapids. With forty-eight beers on tap and 150 bottled beers, Hopcat's selection of beer is unrivaled. In fact, Hopcat has such a great selection that it was recognized last year by BeerAdvocate magazine as one of the top 3 "Best Beer Bars on Planet Earth." Just about everything from local beers to special craft brews can be ordered. In addition to the beer, Hopcat has a full menu including their popular "Crack Fries." There also some fun options like Sloppy Joes and Mac and Cheese. This is all presented in a great two-story bar that looks absolutely beautiful. There is also limited outdoor seating in the warmer months, making this an all around great bar. Hopcat is located in the center of downtown, but it has become one of the top 3 bars in Grand Rapids by offering an unparalleled selection of beer along with great food and atmosphere.
Founders (235 Grandville Ave NW / Grand Rapids, MI / 49503)
Founders has a reputation for great beer with their many offerings available at bars across the state. With over a dozen unique brews, Founders has made a name for itself amongst Michigan brews-and it has even won awards naturally. Consequently, it is not surprising that Founders stands out as one of the top 3 bars in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Founders brews its beers in a brewery on site and recently moved to this facility to keep up with demand. With great beers and a decent sandwich menu, Founders is a popular place to hang out. Located on the fringe of downtown Grand Rapids, it is just far enough outside the core downtown bar district to avoid the annoying college crowds. Instead, what you get at Founders is a great place to hang out with friend and enjoy quality beers. In addition, there is an outdoor seating area. Founders also features regular music nights, making it a great place to catch a band. Each year Founders also throws a "Founders Fest" event where they block off Grandville Avenue in front of the brewery and throw a big block party.
(found on Yahoo. Did not look to see how old.)
(edit) Just to add- You probably should avoid the SE side of GR.

Drive down to Benton Harbor, a fun road trip by the lake. It's where people from Gary, Indiana vacation.

Anywhere outside of the city limits would be a vacation to people from Gary, Indiana.

Yeah the Jackson 5 frequently mentioned their fun summer trips to Benton Harbor in many of their songs.said_aouita;1227033 wrote:Drive down to Benton Harbor, a fun road trip by the lake. It's where people from Gary, Indiana vacation.

In all seriousness, next to Benton Harbor is St Joe's, and that's pretty nice there

Go to Founders - Get me some Devil Dancer and Curmudgeon (bottles or growler). Thanks!
Arcadia Bluffs - Golf Digest #10 ranked public course in the US. Approximately 2 hours from Grand Rapids.
