My whole thing is it's stupid to take a job where you have to rely on peoples good will and it's stupid that we're expected to give extra for someone doing their job. Anyone who does a service for you deserves a tip then.
The thing is you still only tip if they deserve it. I've never said you should always tip. Only tip when they deserve it.
And you're not paying extra. You're paying for the service. Just the service price isn't listed so that gives you the opportunity to pay them what you feel they earned.

You tip a server because their service isn't completely listed on the check. You get to choose how much the service was worth.
