We are looking into upgrading to some kind of A/C system for our home, besides window air conditioners.

Problem is, there is no duct work leading up to the 2nd floor of our home. The heat just rises upstairs from the downstairs. Needless to say, it doesn't heat efficiently, so I highly doubt it would cool the upstairs down if we added central air.

Anybody know of or have any experience with any other home cooling systems that would cool down both downstairs and upstairs?

You're going to receive some negative rep for that.

Sleeper will positive rep it, though, so it's a tie.

You could install a second unit in the attic that only supplies the 2nd floor or you could have a main supply and return duct run up to the attic and branch off to all the rooms from above with the vents in the ceiling of each room. The main duct can usaully be run through a closet.

Yea, I've talked to him about it. Just getting more feedback.

That's a lot of cash though. Looking for cheaper options. I know anything will cost some money, but the number I got to do that when we moved in was almost 10 grand.

Get a Lennox. Mine is 20 years old and never broke down. AC 5 months a year, heat 3 months. Windows open 4 months. All electric house, always < $100 @ month.
 hope this helps

I know little about duct work and did read but will add.... You could get an attic fan (about $125-150) and it would probably take a couple hundred to install it unless you can. Open up the upstairs windows (when it's evening time or mornings) and the attic fan (the one inside your house installed to the ceiling of your second floor)...it'll get the temperature at whatever it is outside quickly. We use ours in the morning and get the house down in the mid 60's (not the past week) and it keeps the house cooler not needing air for a couple extra hours...then in the evening get it going again.

Could have a different type of attic fan on the roof sucking the heat out of the attic....they are easier to install and preset to turn on by themselves. I have both....helped a good bit.

I live on the sun during the summer and don't need air.

You can get an air handler for the attic and it will supply cool air to your upstairs. Im not sure what the price will be but that will prolly be your best bet.
