This happens at my house all the time on the day before trash pick up people drive by and take stuff from the trash (trash day shopper)

Yesterday I was driving home and I passed a house they had set out the trash. As I pasted I saw what looked like a gun safe. (Go figure I would see this) </SPAN>

I couldn’t believe what I saw. Crazy thing I was thinking about getting one for a few rifles I like to buy in the future. Those dam thing run $800.00 plus
</SPAN>
I had never done this before but I pulled over to look. Sure was a gun safe in great condition. I knocked on the door a lady came, I ask (stupid question) is that a gun safe and are you throwing it away. Sure she said and if you can pick it up you can take it. </SPAN>
Next question do you have the combination ….. not a problem and she gave it to me.</SPAN>
I try it and it worked door opens and it is perfect in side.</SPAN>
Problem is this thing has to weigh 250 pound .. plus</SPAN>
Pull up, lower the tail gate I don’t want to drop this on the tail gate (not good idea to do) </SPAN>
I see two guy mowing grass… I went over ask for help and paid them $10.00 each. I now have a very nice gun (rife safe) for free.. Note: that dam thing was heavy mofo.. </SPAN>

Have you ever dumpster dived or trash day shopping?

I have never done it but people take our stuff from the curb all the time. When we lived in town, stuff would last about 10-15 minutes. My favorite was a guy who loaded a (broken) ping pong table onto the top of his mini van.

We got new patio furniture in April and put the old stuff out with the trash. Since we live in the country, I thought it would take a while for it to disappear. Five minutes later, a lady pulled up and started loading chairs into the back seat of her car. I think she lived down the road because she came back and someone on a four wheeler with a trailer was following her. They took everything but the old, ripped up umbrella.

I've been getting rid of junk the last month and it never makes it to the landfill, someone picks it up the night before. Fuck buying a rolloff box.

Hi Belly,

2 x $10 =/= free.

Hope this helps. Otherwise, great grammar on the post.

Last week I had put some old bicycle parts, etc at the curb, and some guy stops by to pick them up for scrap. He was having trouble loading one item so I went out and helped him load it. I tell him before he leaves come back the next Tuesday evening because I have some more metal for him to pick up. He says OK.

Yesterday morning (the day after I tell him to come) at 6:20 in the fucking morning our doorbell rings, and rings and rings, so I go to the door only to find this same scrapper guy and he wants to know where the metal is at. I tell him that someone else must have picked it up the night before.

I would have thought that bicycle parts would be like gold with all the Amish in Holmes County.

I always put out large items or items I don't want to pay to get rid of because the pickers will come to get them for free. I think it makes sense to grab something for free (or almost free) if someone else is throwing it out.

People in the town I live in are like vultures with this stuff. They had their annual 'Spring cleanup" about a month ago where you can put junk on the curb and the town will come pick it up for free. I put an old worthless dishwasher out there and it was gone in under 3 minutes.

Doesnt happen a whole lot in our town on regular trash days. Probably because everything has to be bagged. That is how they charge for trash collection in our town. You buy the special bags to put your garbage in.

BUT....one week a year is trash pickup by the town. It is a free service for the most part and you can put pretty much anything out and it wil lbe taken away for free. That week is when we see the dumpster diving. I had a shitty broken basketball hoop that I had out there for less than 10 minutes befor eit was taken away

Not dumpster diving but used to go to the local grocers and get all their out dated frozen goods. Everything was good but over the date and they had to throw it in the trash. I knew the guy that always threw it out and he would call me when he was gonna get rid of it and I would just go pick it up. Pork loins beef loins you name it I have picked it up there. He dont work there anymore so now dont get free stuff.

Yesterday I put out a gun safe. Some old guy knocked on our door and asked for the lock combo. My wife gave him the combo. The jokes on him though because I followed him home and am now waiting on him to leave so I can enter his house and have some new guns outta a safe I didn't want.

The other day when I picked up that trash day shopping gun safe I dropped it off at a friend house first to give me an estimate on it's value. Thinking about sellling it and getting a new one that I really want. Poor bastard was robbed last night. Good new is he a locksmith and everything was insured.. I should be getting a insurance check for $2000.00 for the gun safe... Thank bro:D

I've put out some things that would have cost me for the garbage to dispose of and these guys come around and picked it up. I thanked them.

I love dumpster diving... I'm a critter. I made over 1200 bucks once I graduated college when everybody was moving out. I sold it on craigslist like none other. I think I sold 3 futons, 2 couches, 2 recliners, some lamps, and an antique table that netted 450. I still check out stuff on my way home from work on trash day. I keep it classy though, I've never actually dived into a dumpster.

I look at it as beer money. The only thing I've ever kept is like 200lbs of nice weights. I sell everything else. Even in a rich town, people still buy the stuff a day or two I put it on.
