Yankees will buy up all the Holidays, Roy...Matt...Christmas...New Years. I watched the ESPN guru Tim Gurchin talking about it...the same way normal folk go out and buy underwear. And the the Yankee media will clamor how "smart" the Steinbrenners are.

Sadly, New York lands him if he wants the money. Only way he doesnt go there is if he takes less money from another team imo.

If he's smart he stays in the National League and in a line-up that has the greatest hitter in the game(Pujols) protecting him. Now if it's only about the money, which it always is, then he ends up in New York if they want him.

What I meant was eventually pitchers have to choose one of them to pitch to and 99 time out of 100 they will pick Holliday.

The game is not rigged...it's just not a level playing field. The "don't hate us because we got money", wears thin. The Yank$ money buys them a playoff spot every year. How many championships in the last 15 years? How many playoff appearances? Nobody else is even close.

The Braves were close in playoff appearances... and in World Series appearances in the 90's.... a shame they only had 1 title to show for it though.... and they beat Cleveland

Mets' fans are officially going to curb stomp Omar Minaya if he doesn't make a big play for Holliday. From what I have heard, Holliday's first choice is the Yankees, second choice is the Mets. Rumor has it he is a bit scared of the size of Citi Field.

Until baseball gets a salary cap, small and mid-market teams have no chance to annually compete.
I'll stop watching baseball is the Yankees sign Holliday this year and get Roy either by the trade deadline or next offseason.

I hope the Indians land him , That way we can trade him right before the playoffs for some prospect who by seasons end will be picking up trash out of the stadium.

I'd like to see him land in Atlanta, although I doubt they will be willing to spend the money. They are one big bat in the outfield away from giving Bobby Cox one more serious run at a pennant.

again, this argument about small market teams not being able to compete is total BS. The Twins, A's, and Marlins all had success in making the postseason on multiple appearances in the past decade, and the Marlins got a championship.

Its completely true. Year in and year out they cant compete. Marlins....PLEASE tell me your kidding with them competing every year. They suck and then have a great run.
A's??? Similar to the Twins. They won a division 3 times in the early deacade and got eliminated right away. They have sucked since their magical run of 2006. Since the Angels have started spending, the A's have been pretty irrelevant.

The Marlins haven't sucked. They may not have won the division every year but they somehow end up being able to compete into August and September. The Twins have taken a good crop of homegrown players and have turned them into a great squad, with a couple of additions here and there.

But not Marlins. Sucked was the wrong word. But they are never a team I take seriously to compete for a pennant (even a division title). Sure they made the great run in 2003 for the title (again from a WC).
They have NEVER won the division, and only made the playoffs twice since they became a team in what, 1993.
That is so far from competing for a title on a year to year basis. Even in 97 when the won it was before all the free spending crap started.

The Marlins are the exception to the rule because they stay competitive ,but even they most years have no chance of winning anything significant. Baseball is going down the toilet quickly. I personally did not watch a single inning of the playoffs this year, and won't until there is a somewhat level playing field.

darby, the Marlins are only as good as their prospects. Then, when their prospects turn into all stars, they have to ship them out.
The Marlins run in a 6 or 7 year cycle where they're bad-average for 5 of those years, then good for the last 1 or 2 years of that cycle.
Rinse and repeat.
If you think spending $200 million and being able to hand choose your FA's doesn't give big market teams like NYY and Boston and advantage, you're sadly mistaken.
