Then Sue might be offended. But only maybe, since we would assume and not actually ask her.ManO'War;1199620 wrote:They should just change it to the Fighting Sue

I think the ND assembly simply gave the University the ability to change the mascot. I has been previously held up in court.
Whether the university is going to change it is still up for debate. Ralph Englestad Arena issue may have something to do with the decision.

I'm sure someone will eventually state on this thread "The people have spoken".(even if the locals Tribes haven't). So I'll just get it out of the way.

It is not a good time here in Grand Forks. Ralph once said if the Fighting Sioux ever change their name they will not play in Hockey at the Ralph. UND pays $1 each year to play at the Ralph. But who knows?
Alot of people are just ready for this to be over. It is sad the as of right now the Sioux right now won't play the Gophers or the Badgers. Hoping this controversy is dealt with and UND Hockey and the University can move on.

""By and large most people either don't care or support the name," Lyle Antelope, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation, said Wednesday."
Then why was it needed changing? The politically correct white guys?

I think if the Sioux came out and supported the school like the Seminoles do with Florida State, then everyone else would pretty much STFU.pnhasbeen;1199853 wrote:""By and large most people either don't care or support the name," Lyle Antelope, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation, said Wednesday."

3 out of the 5 Sioux tribes in NoDak don't mind the nickname. Standing Rock has been trying to extort money from the university and NCAA for years by way of merchandising, and when UND refused to give them a cut they decided the name was offensive and it needed to be changed.

Another win for political correctness, huzzah!
As a Native American, I'm deeply offended by the revoking of their mascot. And when I say "Native American" I don't mean someone of American Indian descent, rather I was born here, my parents were born here, my grandparents were born here. How much more native can I get to 'Murica?
