I have a place to stay in London (free) a friend/business engineer home.
He and his wife would love to have my wife and I over ...

I just am not interested in the Olympic and really don't want to spend the money for airfair and buying spree in London. I know that is a good reason for me but the wife wants to go.

OC please provide me with the Pro or Con of going or not? :D

Free place to crash is key! I don't see any cons to that.

London is amazing. In what part will you be staying?

Cons:
Airfare at this point will be very expensive (probably $1000 or more per ticket).
The city will be batshit insane with all the security and people.
You cannot carry a concealed weapon in London.

Pros:
It's the Olympics.

Well, if you haven't been to London I'd think that's as good as any reason to go. Free lodging, and the Olympics is just kind of a bonus.

Next time the Olympics are in the US I'll probably go. But while I enjoy watching the events, I think the ADD-style of coverage is probably much more interesting/exciting than sitting thru an entire event live. There aren't many events I'd be much interested in sitting thru even the finals. Maybe soccer finals if the US was playing, possible the bball finals, as well.

Heck, you look at something like gymnastics or diving I'm not sure I'd be able to follow it with any clue without the broadcasters spoon-feeding me if a critique of the performance. Track & Field could be fun since I've never seen it live, and would probably better appreciate it as on tv you don't really get a sense for how fast they are running or how far they throw the shotput or javelin.

Have you ever gone to the Olympics? I'd probably kill like 24 people to go to the Olympics someday.

He and his wife live in London in a two bedroom home not sure where but it is in London but they also have a small cottage in Swindon UK.

This is sounding better ... He noted that we could at any time come and spend time at their cottage.

I have been to London twice,enjoyed my visit my wife has never been to London

As for the airfair it is cheaper to fly to Canada and then to London we do this all the time for him to come to America.

I have never been to any Olympics ... my friend is telling me that the sales of tickets are not going will and they may soom lower the price or create a cheap package deals..

Take the old lady to London. You can go to the games, but it's not like your vacation has to revolve around the Olympics. Go for 2 weeks, do some sightseeing, spend some time at their cottage, and take in a few Olympic events.

You could attend the Olympics any couple of years. You can visit London anytime, but it's an once in a lifetime chance to see the summer Olympics in London.

If you are not interested in the Olympics, you'd be insane to go.

When I was in the UK last month I had heard on the radio that tickets were actually very hard to come by. There are so few tickets available for major events (field, track, basketball, soccer) because corporate and IOC groups gobbled them all up. Radio said there would be a very difficult market for them.

However, I would imagine some of the water events like Rowing, Kayaking, Canoeing near Windsor Castle would be an easy ticket and those venues are top notch. Not to mention the tube stop at Eton Dorney drops you off at the foot of the castle. Pretty nice pub scene if you are so inclined.

I have many other obligations in the next few months and adding some like going to the Olympic is just another issue I don&#8217;t wanting to deal with. I can go to London any time and stay with my friend and his wife. </SPAN>
I have some business issue that will need my attention, my grandson operations schedule falls with in this time frame, I was planning a Alaska trip with my wife, (I keep talking about it) a trip to Vietnam plus the additional cost I really don&#8217;t want to nor planned on.</SPAN>
