At what age did you firer your first real weapon and what was it? </SPAN>

My grandpa .22 rifle we went out a shot some cans and bottles, the next morning we shot ground hogs I was 8 years old. I had a BB gun before this but this was my first real weapon. Within a week grandpa gave me my first shotgun, .22 rifle and pistol. </SPAN>

I learned early that this type of weapon is dangerous and need to be handled carefully. I think that seeing a dead groundhog I just shot and later shooting pigs for butchering that my grandpa had on the farm was very real lesson. </SPAN>

I think this is a great idea and more parents should train their kids early about weapons and the reality of real guns..</SPAN>

One lady commented that she was worried that her kid would not understand the different between a video game and shooting a real gun .. My first thoughts were .. Hey! Lady your kid just fucked up and you are a failure as a parent… dumb ass.. </SPAN>

I honestly can not remember the first time I went shooting. But I was young and it was a lot. I used to bow hunt a lot with with my dad when I was younger and we did a bunch of rabbit hunting and a little bird hunting. (He loved bird hunting, but I did not.)

I do agree it is a good idea to teach your kids about guns when they are young.

Anyone trying to blame violence or stupidity on a video game is beyond reasoning so I wouldn't even bother wasting thoughts on them.

As for the question, I think like 12 or something and probably a shotgun.

8 years old, New England single shot 20 guage. It wasnt a birthday present, but rather a Christmas present from my dad. I believe he got me 6 more guns for Christmas before I turned 18.

In the Belly family the joke is "Nothing says Christmas better than Ammo"

I get 5-6 boxes of ammon every Christmas ... better than a CD

I have no idea how old I was when I fired my first gun but I was definitely young. Probably 5 or 6. One of the many benefits of growing up in the country.

Yes it is! And for birthdays, fathers day, etc etc. Nothing says "I love you" like a case of .223 ammo for my AR-15 or a few boxes of .45ACP ammo!

My 8 year old son got a 22/410 combo for Christmas this past year. I am a big advocate of teaching the young ones how to safely use firearms, and not to be afraid of them (though respect them).
