Terrible Interviews

I just got out of probably the worst interview I've ever had.

The entire thing was just a complete trainwreck. I was expecting a few "Tell me about a time when you had a problem and what you did to overcome it" questions, but they asked about TWENTY of those questions. It was terrible. I was fumbling through answers and had to recycle several examples.

How are these questions even helpful in determining whether you're a good employee or not?

Also, why is it that every interviewer has to be super awkward?

Anyone else have terrible interviews?

My first internship interview was an absolute joke. The first question was one of those legit "Describe a time you faced adversity and were a leader blah blah". The rest of the questions were "So tell me what it's like at the Horseshoe when OSU plays Michigan"?

I've had probably 5-6 interviews before in my life and none of them were as bad as that one. Others went about how I anticipated.

I think if I got out of Columbus I'd get the stupid questions about OSU/Michigan.

The worst are when you have are interviewing with an HR person and they ask that shit. They only know about designer clothes, how are you supposed to explain to them anything involving a complicated technical or business process? Most pointless inteviews ever. They usually aren't paying attention because they are writing down every word you say. I experienced most of these when I was in college trying to get a full time job or internship. The second time around isn't near as bad.

Because HR drones tend not to be B1G graduates and therefore are worthless.

The interviews that I just owned.....they both hired within.

My current job of 15 years.....I was interviewed by the superintendent and it was his final day before retirement. We talked about golfing for 10 minutes and we walked out the door together, me with a job and he was off for his tee time.

Hi, I'm dlazz. I like to put on a front and act like I'm perfect and everyone else sucks; but I just posted a thread alluding to the fact that I don't even have a J-O-B. I guess I really am just a college know-it-all afterall, who really doesn't 'know it all.'

Actually a true dlazz would be "Hope this helps".

Anyways, welcome to the forum.

dlazz does have a job. Every interview I've ever been on (except my first one out of college) I currently held a job. Your IP also matches another member. Don't hide behind an alter ego.

I had one back in 2006, ironicly for the same position I now have. Instead of having interview in The Boss' office, which was being cleaned, it was held in a different office. That office hot was hot then I saw some bugs flying around and we he asked a basic Technicial question I blanked out. I've known the answer since 1986 and I could not recall it. It was the first time I've ever done that. I was used to going infront of Boards for awards, when I was in the Military, and never lost.

5 months later there was another opening there. I interviewed and got the position. The second time went much better as we laughed about me messing up months ago and it turned more into a BS session.

I've been lucky in that I've never had a bad interview. I've only had one interview where I didn't actually get a job offer and that drove me crazy. The interview went fine but they wanted more experience even though they knew my experience going in to the interview. Oh well, I think I would've hated working for that company anyway.
