Just thought I'd jump on the Sleeper bandwagon real quick, and say that, for the most part, college coursework is a joke, ESPECIALLY at the Masters level. It could just be the institution from which I have received both degrees, but it is more than evident that all they want is my money. I currently have a 3.7 GPA in my Masters program, and that is by doing the bare minimum. I'm taking courses that are taught by nothing but adjunct professors, who make up what they want as they go along. You come into class, they tell you that you already have an 'A', just don't lose it.
Honestly, if I were a business owner, I think I would take experience over ANY degree, about 99% of the time.
(Disclaimer: This is srz bznz, so all thread shitting will be reported, in ETB fashion).

What school are you attending and what are you getting your masters in?

You can skate by most places with minimal effort in coursework. I found the most useful part of college ... undergrad and master's ... was the networking and connections it provided. Got me in the door in my industry, at a well-respected place.

Unfortunately a lot of places require those degrees. My wife is going back to get her masters in college counseling so she can eventually become the director of college counseling at her school. But yeah, I agree for the most part. Prices keep going up and the quality keeps going down.

The program that I am taking gives me a certain license, so I DO need the degree. They just want my money.sleeper;1191671 wrote:Honestly, its not even worth it getting a masters from BGSU. I hope someone else is paying for it.

That's a shame. My company will pay 100% of my tuition costs to get my masters. That's about the only way I consider it unless I'm going to a B1G school(not named Nebraska, MSU, or Iowa) or an Ivy league(or Stanford).ernest_t_bass;1191676 wrote:The program that I am taking gives me a certain license, so I DO need the degree. Seriously, Nebraska is a joke. No offense, but it should not have been put in the B1G.

I get up to 9 credit hours paid for. I'm taking 9 this summer so I can graduate in August. I'll still have to take 3 more classes, though, for certification.sleeper;1191682 wrote:That's a shame. This is the most convenient, or else I'd have to drive a ways. Don't get me wrong... I like skating by. I'm just pointing out their fraud.Automatik;1191689 wrote:Should have went to a better school, blame yourself.

I agree completely. GEC's also add to the scam.ernest_t_bass;1191691 wrote:This is the most convenient, or else I'd have to drive a ways. Don't get me wrong... I like skating by. I'm just pointing out their fraud.

You are getting a Masters in Education (from a state institution) which is required by law, correct? It is not like 1) You have a choice, 2) It will improve your teaching, 3) The coursework will be hard.</SPAN>
The next sentence is truly a valid point and on topic: Maybe if drank more like you did when you attended college as an undergrad at 18-24 it would appear a little harder? </SPAN>

GEC's aren't a scam. I actually enjoyed some of my GEC's and I think they are important in developing a well rounded individual.
