Wisconsin winner others to follow …

This is only Belly perspective but what I see happening in the near future as a rash of other states following Wisconsin example. I’m sure this will happen in Ohio again but this time police, fire and EMS will have some type of sanctions.

The writing is on the wall Unions and the Democrat Party will have to soon back away from being associated with Unions….

This election was pretty brutal for unions.

Walker was elected, then pushed through collective bargaining reforms for public sector unions. Unions drew a line in a sand and contested a state supreme court race that was essentially a referendum on the law (as the case immediately went to the supreme court). Unions lost that referendum. Then they sought to recall numerous R senators to flip the state senate. That recall bid failed. Then they poured in tens of millions of dollars in a do-or-die battle to recall Governor Walker. That bid failed (though in additional recall races, it looks like they've flipped the senate, finally, which is a bit meaningless since it doesn't appear it will meet again before the November elections, when 16 of the 33 seats are up).

In other words, unions drew a line in the sand, made this their battleground, spent tons of money in a state that went for Obama in '08 by 14 points . . . and lost with all three bites at the apple.

How do we recall Obama?

Seriously, a guy won an election and because unions were unhappy they are able to say, screw what the majority already agreed to, run again?

What the hell is going on in this country?

What's wrong is states owe ONE TRILLION DOLLARS to pension and retirement funds. Same type ponzi scheme that was killing the Big 3. Biggest part of the problem is the guaranteed return @ 9%, typically, which WAS a historical market return but that hasn't been true in over a decade. So while everyone else has seen their 401k's tread water the past 10 years, unions are still getting their benefit at 9% a year, hence the underfunding.

I agree. What a terrible failure for public unions across the country.

The hand-writing is on the wall. The taxpayer is tapped out. If unions don't take the tough steps to work with states to make these funds solvent, they'll see (as in WI) rolls dropping as younger member realize they are flushing their money down the toilet.

And I'll point out that the huge-deficit-to-surplus came about with zero increase in taxes, and, in fact, a large corporate tax break.

We pay outrageous property taxes (over $8,000/yr on a modest home), moderately high sales/income taxes to the state . . . so it's nice when my taxes actually went down for the first time in years.

All this, and I got to see Ed Schultz literally cry on national TV. It was a good night.

Let's see....Deep-pocketed union push for an unwarranted recall election, and lose. I think Democracy is alive and doing just fine.

But it illustrates how painful it can be when the gubmit tit runs out of milk. If there's one lesson to take from Europe, it's that when you get past a tipping point with the handouts you start an irreversible course toward destruction.

It was interesting watching the news coverage as the returns rolled in. After about 70% were counted as Walker was up by almost 20 points, the news was interviewing Barrett supporters who were saying this was just like Florida in 2000, and that once the votes all came in, they felt confident of victory. I mean, seriously? I wish I could've bet them at whatever odds they were willing to offer. Everyone knew Kenosha/Racine/Milwaukee would come in and lean left, but if you think you're going to make up a 20-point deficit in the last 30% of the precincts . . . good luck.

Lessons from Sergeant Schultz:

Money for conservative causes is baaaad.
A $1,000,000,000 war chest for Barry Soetoro is gooooood.

All the special interest groups and unions that drink the kool-aid believe they should be unopposed and are entitled to whatever they want. But it's only natural that the people who actually pay the bills should want their voices heard on how their money is wasted. And when you pay the check you are indeed ENTITLED to be heard.

Greedy unions bought the recall.

WI is a left-leaning, pro-labor state. There was a strong backlash, though, when it came to light that so many of the public sector workers retire at 50 with great pensions, etc. The state was being bankrupt and many people lost jobs, yet union workers refused to take contribute anything toward their healthcare or pension costs (until after the writing was on the wall--then they proposed a "compromise", but it appeared to some to be an act of desparation/final attempt at self-preservation).

Protestors marched around Madison saying, "This is what democracy looks like." They argued that all of Wisconsin supported them and would resoundingly affirm their policies. It turns out that they miscalculated and instead spent millions of dollars of union money in a failed attempt. This has resulted in many union staff members being laid off because they ran out of money. Oh, irony . . .
