Does the Reds' pick have two dads or is this a typo from John Fay?
“His dad’s handled him very well,” Buckley said. “He limited his innings. He really looked after him. Sometimes, when guys don’t participate in all events somebody holds that against them. We had him right up there to pick him.”

It looks right to me. It says his Dad has handled him well.

Appel slides from the projected 1 pick down to 8. Interesting. Pirates definately loading up on pitching in the draft the last couple of years. One potential problem is the ability to sign him. According to the new draft rules, I believe the Pirates only have about $6.6 million allowed to sign all of their top 10 picks. Appel is going to want a majority of that leaving next to nothing for the other picks.

Seattle gets the catcher from florida. They better start teaching montero how to play first

Naquin projects out as a probable RF...the best OF arm in the draft...Gotta have someone to replace Choo when he leaves for FA in a couple of yearsSo the tribe drafts a left handed stick....shocking

He definitely fits the mold of what they like. Seems to be a really good contact hitter with very little pop in his bat.HitsRus;1188820 wrote:Naquin projects out as a probable RF...the best OF arm in the draft...Gotta have someone to replace Choo when he leaves for FA in a couple of years
Only 7 homers in 687 AB's in his 3 years at Texas A&M according to his bio.
I can't get too down on someone I have never seen play, but are we allergic to the concept of a right handed power bat in this organization?
Maybe this kid is a late bloomer, but he is already 21 and isn't showing much pop yet and that is concerning.
There is a place for high average singles/doubles guys in the league for sure, but this team needs a bopper, not more of what we already have.

^^^I can't disagree with that. Tribe passed on some polished college pitching too. They did say they were going in looking for the best player available and wouldn't be using "need" as a basis for selection. You would think however, that with the baseball draft being different than the football draft in that you are rarely going to get someone who can step in and play right off the bat, and that there is a development process anyway, that they would target organization need.....and that with the Pomerantz/White/Jimenez trade, would be a priority.

Yeah, I can see them going cheaper the rest of the way. From what I read, their compensatory pick (45th or so) is a guy with tools who will need a lot of minor league seasoning, so that might be indicative of that.GoPens;1188689 wrote:Appel slides from the projected 1 pick down to 8. I'm just glad they didn't get that Marrero guy (or whatever his name is) that a lot of guys were saying they'd pick. There's already too many weak-hitting infielders in the line-up to need to be training another one.

Will be interesting on how the new bonus structure works. I think it is a long time overdue for something to have been done.

Seattle picked a SS who's already committed to Georgia. Hopefully he's not a fool and skips school.

Tribe has picked up a couple of HS pitchers...a HS centerfielder...and a community college pitcher from Nevada.
