Arroyo gets the most important zero of the day for a starting pitcher, the first inning on a 1,2,3 inning, but he used 18 pitches for 3 batters. But I don't know how much an advantage it is for the opponent to try to get to the Reds bullpen! Although Hoover didn't do as well as we have come to expect from the pen lately.

I didn't want to start the thread as I think they're like 1-2 in games where I start the thread.
Seems like last night took the life out of the bats.

That perfect 2-2 pitch Arroyo made to Johnson, that was right on the edge of the strike zone that the ump wouldn't call, cost Arroyo a lot of extra pitches and the first run of the game! Now 1-0 with 34 pitches thru 2.

Cairo, just isn't good this year.
He's been so great for the Reds before this season...

Been a few pitches arroyo liked that he hasn't gotten.

He also liked that 5th pitch of his AB that he hit off the wall that was then was followed by the first batter Lyles had to face a 2nd time hitting it over the same wall for a 2-1 Reds lead.Midstate01;1187553 wrote:Been a few pitches arroyo liked that he hasn't gotten.

Hanigan with a perfect throw to catch Altuve stealing for only the second time this year. Impossible to do it better than that.

Yes, his last 3 catch and throws have been terrific. Saved Arroyo a few pitches too. Arroyo has gone 18, 16,12 on pitches in the first 3 innings, and now has the lead. Can the offense add to it as they go the 2nd time thru?Terry_Tate;1187560 wrote:Hanigan with a perfect throw to catch Altuve stealing for only the second time this year. Votto is on fire. That ball must look like a beach ball coming in there~!

BP with a pitcher's best friend 2 hopper right on 2B that Altuve makes a terrible throw on to just get one. No error, but it really hurts the pitcher to not make that DP.

Nice to see Bruce go to LF. You'd like to see balls to the opposite field find grass or the wall more than the pull field, just for the psyche, so the hitter can more readily see the benefits of going oppo. Right now the player that could most benefit from going oppo is Cozart. At a game in Pitt last week he did actually hit a couple good ones to RF, but they were caught, and disappointingly I haven't seen him try that way since!

I like the overhand dart like throw on that long of a toss rather than a slow underhand one like Votto almost just got burned on!

Did Arroyo lay off the liner by Martinez because he knew BP was back there, or was it just the first instinct for self preservation? Then BP makes a great play to his right with a quick little glove snatch for the final inches. His hamstring must be feeling pretty good!

The Astros literally have not one player that I know of.

What is showboat BP doing out there in RF? Trying to distract BP from catching that ball? Heisey may have been distracted some last night that may have contributed to him not executing the slide just right and rolling over some on that great play attempt that just barely failed allowing the Astros some runs.

That was a bad call on the 3-0 pitch to BP for the walk!

Bruce was very patient to lay off the first two pitches for a 2-0 hitters count, but then he ruined a good opportunity on the 3rd pitch and ended the threat with the Reds still behind. Important inning for Arroyo to hold the astros at 3. The most runs he has given up this year is 4 which he has done 4 times which resulted in two losses and to no decisions, and the two no decisions the Reds won by scoring 6 and 9 runs.

He was out there 12' away from Bruce when he was catching a fly ball for the last out of the 5th, with his arms up in the air and gesturing when he should be getting out of the way!Midstate01;1187600 wrote:Huh?

Very well executed pick-off play by Hanigan, Arroyo, and Cozart, but they didn't get the out call which was justified by the replay!
