He did have quite the interesting saga over the past few years.

1. Long-time assistant gets head job after RR leaves for Michigan.

2. Then gets strange deal where he stays as head coach for one final year to groom the guy who the school decided would replace him.

3. Then steps down (or fired?) when it's revealed his wife was trying to smear the replacement. Don't remember all the details, but do remember thinking it was a really, really strange story.

4. And now, dead.

RIP Coach Stew. I wasn't a huge fan of his coaching but he always seemed like a good guy.

@PaulZeise: Regardless of what you think of Stewart as a coach, nobody loved being a Mountaineer and representing #WVU more than he did. RIP

My best friend (who turned me into a WVU fan) knew Bill personally. Coach Stew was friends with his dad. Always had nice things to say about him, except on game days. :)

Cardiovascular disease is truly the silent killer. I've lived through this shit twice in the past 14 months. People in their late fifties, otherwise healthy, playing 18 holes, expecting to live into their eighties...and then wham....dead.

I feel for the family. They never had a chance to say good bye.
