What things do you find funny and kinda odd when people giving advice?

1. people who have been married 2-5 times giving marriage advice?
2. poor people giving money saving tips?
3. me giving dating advice....
Theres alot more.

Every single day I always hear a fat person giving another fat person dieting advice....what to eat.......how much...etc etc etc.

If it wasnt so disgusting id say it was funny as can be. For years and years now it is ust amazing how some people will dispense advice on a subject no way they know what the hell they are talking about. Then of course the advice of getting a large diet drink with their value meal at BK, or McD, or Wendy's....

Some of the funny things......a candy bar only has 250 calories, that is better for you then that subway healthy sub that has 350....

Ran out of weight watchers points for the day..whatever the means...so they wait till 12:01 to make a pizza to eat...'but it had mostly veggies on it'........

If the higher calorie sandwich keeps you satisfied longer than the candy bar then perhaps you eat less calories in the long run.

I agree but, maybe a person who has been married can give advice on what mistakes to avoid?? IDK...

Or maybe some fat people have knowledge on the topic, but no self-control.....

I generally don't like advice unless I'veasked for it.

a 350 calorie sub is better for you than the 250 candy bar for many reasons, but mostly because of what syl said...

People who are celebrities giving us political advice on who we should vote for, falls into the same category. What does a fat person know about weight control and what does a celebrity know about politics? It's called testimonial in both cases and in both cases, it doesn't hold much water as far as validity is concerned.

Another "interesting" approach is when a Christian preaches advice to a non-Christian, citing passages from the New Testament. If I don't believe in the New Testament, than strictly using logic here, your passages mean nothing to me. It's like someone using a comic book to instill facts: if I think the comic book is fiction, than using it as a reference is pointless!

Please note, I am NOT dogging Christians here, just the ones who aggressively preach (particularly the real nutty ones who hang out in the NYC subway stations). I am sure other religions do it as well, just annoys me.

haha, I HAVE actually seen this guy. I am rarely in Times Square, but when I go to the Port Authority to go visit my parents, I see this dude and his lackeys. I don't mind them as much cause they are always in one spot, which I am rarely near. It's those "preachy" guys who follow you onto the subway and yell about Jesus the entire trip that get under my skin.

Advice is mostly a knowledge issue, while follow-thru is mostly a willpower issue. It makes sense to me that someone can have the former while lacking the latter. Whether it's prudential for someone in that spot to dispense advice is another story.

In general, I think advice stands or falls on its own--if a poor person says to spend less than you earn, it's still good advice, even if it comes from someone whi is broke.

I shoulda have prefaced this by saying the advice this person gives is quite hilarious. Told another fat person the other day that she did well because instead of getting a burger at Mcdonals she got the crispy chicken strips....or today's entry of eating "healthy" at Subway by getting the bacon chicken ranch sub with extra bacon. "but its subway".....

Is quite funny.

This, IMO, is like having a doctor who smokes.

Will I take their advice on what's healthy for me? Hell yes.

Will I smoke and behave like they do? Hell no.

While that particular sub isn't great for you it's probably still much better than eating at McDonalds or Wendys. So by saying it's Subway does make sense to a certain extent. lol don't mean to be technical but had to point that out. Other than that you are correct.

My friend thinks this can relate to coaching. . . he always says he would never be able to play football for someone like Mark Mangino because he is so massively obese he can't possibly have respect for himself. . . how can I have respect for him? I thought this was an interesting point of view.

Personally, I agree with FFT. . . even if someone is overweight and they are giving advice, it doesn't necessarily mean they are wrong. Maybe they have actually went the extra mile to inform themselves on what diets really work, and they just can't stick to it. It is all about the knowledge the person actually possesses.

I had an obese gym teacher in grade school...I for the life of me have never understood how you can teach physical education when you can't do a push-up or sit-up with a gun to your head

How about reading Tiger Woods being quoted during an interview last month in Australia. "I am a family man, family comes first. Ive learned to budget my time with practicing and spending time with my wife and kids."

So just b/c I'm a bigger fella means I don't know what's healthy? That's kind of dumb if you possibly believe that.

It's just one of those theory vs. practice things. It's easy to know the theories behind whatever, but putting those theories to practice can be difficult.

I think she's the last standing gym teacher in America to actually consider dodge ball a legit PE exercise for grade schoolers.

I shoulda prefaced my original post to also say....'giving bad advice that got that person into the situation they were already in'.

For instance the fat one......dispensing bad advice...the type of bad advice that got that person into the predicament they are in already...to another fat friend as athey try to lose weight....

I'll jump on here real quick.

I have held an NSCA certification for personal training and have something of an education in exercise science, which obviously would indicate that I have some idea of what the hell I'm talking about when it comes to physical conditioning, diet, etc.

However, about four years ago, I developed some type of a neural condition that left me severely weakened physically, and the duration of time that it lasted (close to a year) caused quite a bit of atrophy. They never found out what was actually wrong with me, but the effects still last today. For example, if I so much as sneeze, the shock from the force causes a pretty painful burning down both arms that lasts for up to an hour.

As a result, I'm carrying quite a bit more weight than I should be or than I was before this hit. If you need diet or exercise advice, feel free to ask....even though you'd never think to do it if you actually saw me and you'd regard me as one of the people in the first post that is being specifically referred to.
