So glad city council decided to go behind the voters' backs and use public money to save this pitiful organization.

Yeah LJ, city council should have rigged the draft lottery. It's all city council's fault.

This team should be competing for a playoff spot by now - Trade the pick for Rick Nash then trade the number 2 pick for #1 d-man.

Still though, at 2, they should be able to get a good player. A superstar quality player would be nice but if they can get Nash in order, they kind of already have that. You don't need 3 superstars to win it all like you somewhat do in the NBA.

Boston Bruins proved that last year. They have probably one superstar, who plays defense, and a bunch of really good players. Bergeron, Marchand, Thomas, Krejci, Peverly, etc. You can go up and down that roster, and see guys who never get mentioned as top tier players, but together as a group, are very very good.

I don't follow junior hockey too much other than the world championships which are always the week after Christmas, but usually every other year, a really good player comes out.

Last few years, top 3 players...

2011
1. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (really good player for Edmonton)
2. Gabriel Landeskog (excellent player for Colorado, played all 82)
3. guy who hasn't seen the NHL yet, still in the juniors

2010
1. Taylor Hall (good player slowly coming along in Edmonton)
2. Tyler Seguin (plays big minutes for Boston, helped win cup last year, made all star team this year
3. Still in juniors

2009
1. John Tavares
2. Victor Hedman
3. Matt Duchene
all good players

2008
1. Steven Stamkos (superstar, scored 60 goals this year)
2. Drew Doughty (excellent defenseman, played for Team Canada)
3. Zach Bogosian

2007
1. Patrick Kane (scored cup winner 2 years ago)
2. James Van Riemsdyk
3. Kyle Turris (hasn't panned out, on his second team, not seeing a lot of ice time)

You can keep going, the last 10 years have produced great players in the top 3.

The last great great player drafted was Stamkos in 2008, so the league could be due for another superstar.
