The same reason I have to use my tax dollars to support your cult; forced by the government.

Thankfully there is no freedom of education clause in the Constitution, but there is one for religion.

I would like the government to get the taxes that are owed to them before anything or anyone else is taxed more.

Maybe figure out the tax system first...then there can this "tax exempt" status revisited.

There is also a lot of good that ANY nonprofit does that the government doesn't do with taxes. I would prefer many of these non-profits operate how they are instead of allowing the federal government to screw up even MORE money. I don't agree with Planned Parenthood, but if they continue to educate women -- that's more than what the federal government is doing for many of those women.

The purpose of "churches" are to help people in need too. Do they do their job? That's debatable.

Would I prefer that we didn't build massive and grandiose temples...absolutely! But as much as I do not like organized religion, there are many that do GREAT things on a large scale. There are many that do so much more positive things than what that money would be doing if it were taken in taxes.

Pretty much ever private and college university in the country is non-profit (not counting Phoenix, DeVry, etc.). Those institutions do so much more than what any government could do if you taxed them. I would venture to say that every Division I athletic program that is separate from the institution is non-profit -- they do more than tax money would.

Just what we need...more taxes being taken out from everyone and everything. That'll fix things...

They don't pay taxes but they make up for it other ways...or hopefully they do. I wouldn't mind if they actually had some sort of stipulations -- however that may be. I really don't like seeing "non-profits" have thousands and millions of dollars sitting around and not actually going to good use. There are non-profit private and public universities that have $600 million worth in their endowment and still charging $50,000+ for tuition...to me, that's terrible. I understand having some operating funds for the future...but that's outrageous.
Will try to remember to respind to this when I'm not very drunk.

By not taxing some you are by definition going to be taxing others more or running a deficit.

Yes, I did.

How does that question emerge from me stating that marriage is a relationship contract?

Well at least you are honest unlike 99% of Christians I encounter at the mall on Sundays.

For most believers and bible thumpers, marriage is nothing more than an okay from God to bang a woman.

The problem I have with religious zealots is the selective application of the Bible. What sense does it make to devote your life to honoring part of it but then completely disregarding other parts?

Exodus 31:15--For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.

Yeah? How come none of the religious nuts are putting each other to death the ones that do any work on Sundays? But yet it's okay to apply other parts of the Bible?

That's illogical nonsense to apply parts and ignore others.

Damn it vball. I've only been checking in on this thread to see pics of Kate Upton. I saw you were the last one to post here and now I'm disappointed.

If the federal [and state] government(s) actually did their job by collecting the taxes owed to them...then I would potentially trust them by adding more taxes. Or, if the federal government did a better job in attracting businesses to the United States, and then we could have tax money there.

If you think non-profits not getting taxed is a problem...and think the federal/state government should tax MORE groups because they won't be running a deficit then...I think there is a problem in the thinking. You have much more faith in the government than I have. Many of these non-profits are doing jobs that the federal/state governments are not doing. This could help the deficit problem because they are addressing issues and helping people -- unlike what the federal/state government actually do.

This is a wonderful opinion that has nothing to do with churches being businesses that don't pay any taxes. This is textbook deflection.

Enjoy!
