I'm looking for a wedding reception location. If we have the wedding in the Wooster area, what halls can you think of? Any you'd recommend for or against?

Here is a list I put together already, with drive time from the potential wedding site in parentheses:

The Pines (31 min)
1319 North Millborne Road
Orrville, OH 44667
330-684-1010
http://www.thepinesgolf.com/weddings/

Greenbriar Conference & Party Center (30 min)
50 Riffel Road
Wooster, OH 44691
330-345-8333
http://www.greenbriarwooster.com/weddings.htm

The Galaxy Restaurant (1 hr 0 min, no further North than this)
201 Park Center Drive
Wadsworth, OH 44281
330-334-3663
http://www.galaxyrestaurant.com/banquet/default.asp

Memories Conference and Party Center (29 min)
2437-B Back Orrville Road
Wooster, OH 44691
330-264-8844
http://www.memoriespartycenter.com/weddings.php

Genesis Party Center (44 mins)
10265 Wosoter Pike
Creston, OH 44217
http://www.genesispartycenter.com/contact-us
http://www.genesispartycenter.com/

Shisler Conference Center/OARDC (23 min)
1680 Madison Avenue
Wooster, OH 44691
330-263-5501
http://www.shislercenter.ohio-state.edu/

Are there any I am missing that I should consider? Do you have any positive/negative experiences with any of the above that you would recommend or vote against? Thanks for any input.

Had our reception at Greenbriar back when it was called Black Tie Affair. Place used to be nice...not so much anymore from what I've gathered.

Been impressed with functions/receptions at Memories and The Pines. Can't go wrong at either, IMO. Pines offers some better options for pictures since it's on a golf course and Memories is next to a Mattress Store...lol.

Been to one at Genesis, nice place, but nothing real memorable. Shisler seems a little to business-y for me. Perfect place for a seminar, maybe not a wedding reception. Could be wrong though.

I'd start with Pines/Memories and check available dates & go from there. Guessing Memories might be a little easier on the wallet, but that really depends on the options you choose.

Make sure to cross reference the open dates with any important sporting events. :)

the Pines would be my first choice. I like Greenbriar too. I have never had a bad experience either place. I, like RR1, think Shisler is more of a business seminar place. I am not a fan of Memories at all. I have attended functions there numerous times, and the food was horribly bland at each event. The galaxy has great food, but it is a nice little drive for your guests. I have no experience at Genesis, but it is near Creston...nuff said.

The Galaxy would be a 1-hour drive, but for most my friends (from Akron) and all her family (from Conneaut), it'd be 1 hour in the exact right direction for them to return home. If that wasn't the case, it'd be off the table. Plus it came highly recommended.

I have been to weddings at all of the ones listed except the Galaxy. I would recommend Shisler (or Quailcrest) more for the good photo ops on campus and what’s left of the arboretum. Also you get to pick your caterer. Links to two you missed.

We get it, you are getting married.

Should we expect a limo thread next? Or maybe a honeymoon destination thread?

Haha. Nah. We have a good grasp on honeymoon locations. Haha! If I post another thread, it'd probably be asking for photographer recommendations or something like that. One factor in choosing a wedding location (her home church or the one we attend currently) is how many/what quality reception halls are in the wedding location's vacinity... so I wanted to make sure I didn't miss any, thus this thread was created.

We decided tonight that we are getting married in my/our Wooster area, and not in her hometown. So this reception venue search is indeed on!

Hope this helps.

I see some inaccuracies in your story.

Very drunk = no sex.

The golf course off I-71 in Bellville is a great place for receptions. If you pick a place in Wooster, I know a great caterer.
