OU needed to get the win in regulation. But even if the FT was made, I wouldn't say it was most likely they would have won. So missing the FT takes OU's chances of winning from something near 50/50 to much, much nearer to zero whether the loss happens in regulation or OT!

What's a more likely scenario -UNC, the #2 scoring team in the country, plays a shit offensive game because a lottery pick and possibly the best PG in the country is out injured.

OU, who shuts down MAC opponents 80% of the time, locks down the #2 offense in the country and the lack of Marshall isn't an impact?

Both teams played badly offensively. OU didn't shoot 32% because of Carolina's stifling defense either.

Survive and advance. That's about the only positive thing I can say for Carolina tonight. They'll live to play another day.

Great effort from OU. They didn't shoot it very well, and certainly didn't play their best game, but they competed and left it all on the court. The Bobcats should be very tough next season.

Carolina got great games from Zeller, even though they stopped going to him offensively, and from Reggie Bullock. Without big plays from those two, and some key plays from Henson, Carolina is headed back to Chapel Hill. I was worried that the Heels would be lost offensively without Marshall running the show, and that's exactly what happened. White did a decent job (Watts did not), but it's obviously not the same as having Kendall out there. Carolina still should have been able to exploit their adavantages over the Bobcats without their PG, but they obviously didn't do a very good job of that.

Once again, Carolina didn't finish a team off when they had the chance. Harrison Barnes was dreadful, even though he made some crucial plays down the stretch. If Marshall can't go on Sunday, the Heels have ZERO chance to beat Kansas unless Barnes plays the way he is capable of playing. Gonna take a great team effort in order to make it to New Orleans.

Great effort by OU. But when you play a team like Carolina and they can't get the job done in regulation, you can't give them five more minutes. They did what they had to do in OT and Ohio couldn't answer. Still a great game and a great season...with the hope of another one coming up next year since everyone's returning.

I hope Groce doesn't follow the same path as Stan Heath and leave for "greener" pastures, because what he has in Athens cold be ******* emerald. Next year could be a Butler type of run with all of those kids returning. D.J. Cooper with another summer of work might just be one of the top 5 to 10 guards in the entire country. And Kellogg and Offutt could turn into robotic assassins from deep.

I like the group as a whole and can admit that I was wrong about the MAC to a certain extent. At least with regard to Ohio. I will be paying attention now.

Still agree that the MAC is a shell of its former self. As Rick Pitino might say, Ron Harper isn't walking through that door.

But Ohio has the guys to build around a potentially big run. It would definitely do the Bobcats good to schedule a few challenging away opponents, such as a rematch with Carolina in CH or at Kansas or Ohio State. If scheduling permits it, of course.

Much of scheduling is done in advance, but not all. Duke has been known to schedule mid-majors coming off successful seasons the year prior. After George Mason's run to the Final Four in 2006, the Blue Devils added them to the schedule the following fall.

It happens. As I said, if scheduling permits.

To add to that point further, Duke and Butler scheduled a national championship "rematch" just last season. Ohio, if it works to do so, could pick up a game or two with a major school from one of the big conferences.

This is untrue. Schedules in college basketball are largely put together in the spring/summer before the season.

If OU wanted a gauntlet OOC schedule next year, they could get one.

For instance, Kentucky has 5 games locked in for next year.

vs Indiana
at Louisville
vs Duke (Georgia Dome)
vs/at Syracuse (Big East-SEC Challenge, could still alter these for match-ups)
vs Portland (last of a 3-game series)

Depending if the SEC goes to an 18-game schedule, that would leave 8-10 out of conference games still yet to be finalized. It's probably very similar to OU, if not more, given that they aren't locked into TV contracts with the conference challenge, the Champions Classic (Duke, MSU, KU, UK 3-year series) and the 2 long-term rivalries (UL and IU). I'd venture to say OU doesn't have very many, if any games already under contract for next year.

Scheduling is done years in advance, so that is going to be worthless for the guys already there.
