Sirius/XM Radio

I got a few months of this for free in my new whip, and I must say how greatly disappointed I am in it.

The variety is nice, but the sound quality is terrible. Everything sounds like it is being streamed from dialup on Realplayer or something.

How do people rationalize paying $100/yr for it?

Been a couple of threads on this already but probably locked. I have had XM for years, I have a portable. I use it mostly in the house but take it in my car on long drives and out fishing and such. Lately though I have really thought about cutting it as you can pretty much get all the content on the phones now. Just now sure what I'd do with the radio and all the docs I have for it??

You could likely sell it to some shmuck on eBay.

I just don't get the hubub about it. A lot of people swear by it, but I'm not impressed at all.

I am not a huge music guy. I listen to mostly sports and talk. There are a couple things I like that I can't pull off normal radio, especially in master bedroom where I use the XM most. To be honest I don't even really think about it, I just turn the radio on and the $$ comes out my account every 3 mos without thought.

I use mine all the time to help me get fired up for fighting people I meet on the internet.

Mine sounded like that when I had it at first and it ran through an FM transmitter, but the quality is much higher now that I run it directly through my auxiliary jack.

Mine is built into the radio.

I got it free for 3 months when I bought my new car. Didn't renew it-I listened to it at times but wasn't worth paying for.

I have it in my car and have never had an issue with audio quality. My wife has it in her car, and she has never had issues with it.

You might want to take that new whip into wherever you bought it and have them look at it. Because something isn't right there.

Also, I don't know anyone that pays $100/year for a single subscription. My wife had it on a trial basis in her new car. At the end of the trial, I called in (it took a few times) and got her subscription, AND my subscription for $95 for the year. They also paid to have the radio installed in my car.

never met anyone who has it that doesn't like it. You sound like a snob. The music channels i listen to don't have commercials, it's worth the money.

I looked online and a lot of people were bitching about the sound quality. A few of the stations transmit higher than others, but the ones I've noticed sound like garbage. The treble sounds washed out.

Everything else (cd/FM/aux) sounds fine.

I'd still bring it in to have them look at it. If I'm buying a new car that has a feature like that, and it doesn't sound good...I'd want them to check to see if there's a fucked up connection or something.

My radio isn't built in. But my wife's is. And we have not had a bit of trouble on the Sirius in her car.

It isn't the greatest ever but with a month left in my trial they called about renewing for two years. Started off at $72/yr but I acted uninterested and managed to get it down to $36/year. A co-worker did something similar and the schmuck who was calling him kept giving 90 day free trials. He got about 18 months of free XM before it stopped working. Just something to consider if it grows on you...

As for quality my XM is built into my car and I've not had the issues you are experiencing.

I had it for about a year. Just got tired of it though and cancled my sub.

The music channels are alright, but listen to it enough and it's the same shit over and over again. Just wasn't worth it, imo.

Decent amount of complaining about it on this thread:

No, Elantra. The rationalizing they use makes sense (regarding limited bandwidth)
