Anyone still have a turntable and listen to vinyl? If so, do you have a brand of turntable you'd recommend? I'd like to buy something, I don't need anything top of the line but I also don't want a piece of junk.

For those that have a decent vinyl collection, what is your best/most valuable record?

Vinyl sucks !!! CDs have much better quality...said 1984.

I can see Justin sitting in his palatial estate smoking a pipe, phonograph playing in the background, thumbing through vintage Playboy magazines.

I say the hell with vinyl, go very classy with reel to reel...or get some skunk weed and play the old 8 track.

From what I've seen you can get a decent turntable and then get a nice catridge to go with it and have a pretty good setup. After that there's really just the jump to audiophile quality and price systems.

That looks decent.

I have a cheap ION one I got off woot and a few older ones that I've had for a while.

Talking about vinyl reminds me of my childhood. My Dad had a portable Philco that I used to listen to records. Mainly my Partridge Family album. Dad and Grandparents had those huge console stereos. Mom used to play her Carpenters albums on it. Ah the 70's.

I can remember recording Statler Bros songs from LP to 8 track for my Grandpa, so he could listen to them in the car. Ah the 80's.

I hate to say I didn't buy my first CD until 1989. I bought several from a friend then had to go out and buy a CD player to play them.

Vinyl just sounds better is the reason I like it as well as for the artwork.

Sound quality on the internal speakers isn't great. But I hooked it up to some bookshelf speakers I have and it has been fantastic.

I have a small collection of vinyls now. Miles Davis Live, Otis Redding Live in Europe, Flogging Molly, two Red Wanting Blue albums, and Chulahoma by the Black Keys.

I love sitting in my office listening to some vinyl and writing.

That was the argument for CDs back in the 80's. CD's sounded better. I love nostalgia.

Well digital will sound the best when done caringly and at the right quality (think a good master and recording in FLAC format).

But that shows why sometimes vinyl has more "depth".

I still have my large collection of vinyl....but my turntable died a long time ago. I went out and bought a turntable with a usb cord, so not only can i still listen to the records, but i can also put them into digital. The software automatically searchs for the song while its playing and adds the artist, title, etc..

Still listen to my Panasonic turntable from 1980. Had to replace the belt a couple of times, but still works great. Most of my albums are from mid 70's to early 80's. Walsh, Zeppelin, Stones, Floyd, Sabbath are just a few that I listen to.

Word. Also owned the Technics brand, always seemed like a good amp. I believe Panasonic owns Technics. Maybe it's their "higher end" brand name?

Yeah, I'd be curious how the sound quality is. Also, a link or a brand/model if you can remember it.
