Just want to brainstorm some ideas here for promotions that might help boost traffic.
One quick and easy idea I had was this:
If you create a thread and it hits 50 replies you are entered into a drawing each month. A winner (or two) are pulled and win a $10 gift card to wherever.
If I get some different OC t shirts printed I could also use them as giveaways.

Great, so we can have a bunch of threads of Coyotes, CCrunner and ETB posting 50 times themselves?justincredible;1106842 wrote:Just want to brainstorm some ideas here for promotions that might help boost traffic.

What about, paid stickys in SB and monthly ban auctions?

I deserve a promotion!
And, yeah, while the 50 replies thing is cool, it probably should be 50 unique replies, so people don't constantly bump their own shit to get entered. With them knowing for a fact that we will check IPs, so if a bunch of "new members" get someone to 50, that shit won't work.

I would have some disclaimers that only a certain % of replies can be "filler" or someone talking to themselves.LJ;1106845 wrote:Great, so we can have a bunch of threads of Coyotes, CCrunner and ETB posting 50 times themselves?

I don't have any ideas. But my own observation from previous efforts is follow through. I understand the golf outing not working because not enough people going. But V-cash/betting has also fallen by the way-side.
Maybe we should just try to rework v-cash/betting and improve that. For instance limiting the games we do. Instead of just having a bunch of games constantly going, just a couple of big games every once in a while. Also only try to do games that are either a REALLY BIG match up or involve teams that a lot of people are fans of.
For example. If a game doesn't warrant it's own thread, we probably should be doing v-bookie on it.
And in the first post for the game we can link to the v-bookie thread about betting on it.

I think you're ass backward on vbookie. The more things available, the more likely someone is to find something that interests them. If we add a bookie or two, they can link their wagering to the game threads like lotz does here and there.

With the new site there will be a completely different betting system. I haven't played around with it much, though.

Actually psychological studies show that too much choice often prevents a person from acting at all and just completely refraining from the activity. The less is better for getting involvement. If it's more meaningful then there is more reason to do it.ts1227;1107226 wrote:I think you're ass backward on vbookie. Currently, the only people that would do v-bookie are those that are really into sports betting in the first place. Limit it to just games that people post about. (OSU football basketball would almost always qualify, UM football and a few UM basketball games that people create threads for ahead of time, Notre Dame football and maybe a few of their bigger basketball games, Duke/UNC basketball game, Big time games like meaningful bowl games - not the shitty ones, for NBA, not all the games, just more sporadically, for NFL, cleveland, cinci and steelers games and MNF games, etc.).
If it was more meaningful and somehow tied into the threads we might see some more involvement and significance to it. Right now I know I personally never do it because who cares. It's just a bunch of random crap all the time. If it was only meaningful games that people actually talked about and linked to at teh beginning of a game thread it would have more significance.
At least that's how I see it.

I think tying it in to threads is a great idea. We could always edit the original post of a thread about a game to include the vbookie link.
But I don't think having a lot of options in the vbookie forum is a bad thing.
Putting the links in threads in the various sports forums would bring the casual fan over to the vbookie forum. Then they might find some other stuff to bet on if they poke around.

I would agree you if the forum was like chock full of shit. Even when karen creates "a lot" there are still usually 5 or less active things to bet on (which is aided by the face that he packages multiple games at once into one wager, which is smart.

Haha, no offense. I'm just trying to throw out ideas to get more people involved and looking at the fandom of the posters.ts1227;1107276 wrote:Piss off. Love, a MAC fan.

Justin thinks we should keep it as is so it'll go with that, but I still believe it's the wrong decision. I think that there are opportunities constantly going is part of the problem it becomes kind of ho hum. Yes, that's a good thing if you're trying to make money off real betters. But we are trying to pull in people who wouldn't bet sports but just like watching sports.
Anyways, I'm glad we will try to pull in links to v-bookie on threads in advance.
Edit: I think for the most part NO one is doing it. I just chose a random thread (jjhuddle must be winning). There are only two posters in the first 50 posts that have actually used v-bookie recently it seems. 1 is down to 1,000 v-cash, the other at 15,ooo v-cash. We shouldn't be making it set up to attract normal sports betters who like a lot of options because they know what they are doing (or think they do) and choose games they feel the know more about. But we are trying to pick up people who normally don't bet sports and only care about certain events (namely the games that get their own game threads).

I think more non-sports events would increase usage.
