I have filled out a claim with the site I ordered an item from but while I was waiting for a response I thought I would pose this question here.

UPS delievered a package to my house today and left the package in my garage. I keep my dog in the garage during the day and there is NO way the driver would not have seen the dog in the garage. Well my dog tore the package to shreds and the item was ruined.

Is UPS responsible for replacing this item?

Yikes. I don't know. Since it was your dog on your property, you may not have much of a case.

Yeah, I think you may not have a case here. They'll probably say you just gotta have a better trained dog, I'm afraid. Sucks though.

You would have been better off probably to lie and say that someone got in your garage and stole it.

I just got off the phone with my brother. He retired this year after 31 yrs at UPS. He says Yes!! UPS is responsible and will refund you original costs!! Might be a claim form and some waiting but they will refund you.

Thanks septemeber63!!! Good to hear. I almost left "special instructions" about delivery when I placed this order but I now I KNOW I need to do that next time. I honestly didn't think they would go in the garage cause my dog is a yapper...lol.

I've had packages "lost" or come up missing before and typically the site I order them from will take care of the claim. I will wait to hear from them and if they don't file the claim for me I will go through UPS to file the claim.

All you can do is ask. I don't think UPS would balk at keeping a customer over whatever the cost of the item is. It's probably built into their costs of business to pay for damages resulting from their negligence.

He usually leaves them by the front door or back door...this is the first package since the addition of my garage.
