The Yanks weren't going to be able to keep everyone.... although after the WS he just had I'd have rather kept him than Damon....

On his off days, he will be serving as the clubhouse dart board. Have you seen that mug???

I'll miss watching him but he's mid 30s, had statistically one of his worst seasons, plays so so defense, and is hurt alot. I'll take a resigned Damon in R, Cabrerra in L and Granderson in C and Gardner giving any of them a day off.

the Yanks will still ahve a good outfield, no doubt about it, but they will struggle without Matsui's bat

Not sure about that. Maybe his power but his overall bat....
Just comparing their 2009 seasons:
Granderson: 160 games, 91 runs, 157 hits, 286 total bases, 28 doubles, 8 triples, 30 Hrs, 71 rbi, 72 walks
Matsui: 142 games, 62 runs, 125 hits, 232 total bases, 21 doubles, 1 triple, 28 Hrs, 90 rbi, 64 walks
Outfield bat for outfiield bat, counting health, age, defense and baserunning I'd take Granderson as a definite upgrade.

After the postseason he just had, I want him back, even if its only to make him active in October

I thought that as well but Cowherd had a good point yesterday. The great front office people are the ones who can look at Matsui's run in the WS and still cut him loose because its objectively the best thing for the team in the years to come. It's fans like us who see what he did and fall in love with his heroics and never want to let him go.
He was a great Yankee and served us well, but its time to move on, just like someday we're going to lose someone like Posada or Jeter or Rivera.

When we lose those 3 we're fucked.

My hope is we'll get Mauer to replace Jorge. I'd prefer to see Chamberlain replace Rivera. I have no idea who we could get to play SS after Jeter...though he has said he wants to play another 5-6 years so who knows who's the hot SS commodity by then.

Jeter will be around for a little while longer; the other two, I'm not so sure. Don't know if Chamberlain is ready to fill those shoes
