The link you posted says it isn't confirmed that they're shipping Lee--just that he's been discussed in trades. A little misleading with the thread title.

If it his true however, what the hell are they thinking?

ESPN is reporting that Lee is involved by the way.

I think it would be a good trade for the Phillies. They shouldv'e traded Hamels instead of Lee though.

Everything I've read is this trade is a go. And Hallayday will sign an extension with the Phillies.

Not sure I would give Cliff Lee up in the process. He was the best pitcher they had last year.

If they don't lose Lee or Hamels the Phillies will be favorites in the NL again.

How is Halladay and Hamels that much better than Lee and Hamels?

Unless they knew Lee wouldn't resign in Philly.

Lee is 31 and Halladay is 32 so that doesn't make a big difference...

You may have a point--but why wouldn't Lee sign back in Philly? Anyone have a hunch? I would think he would and I'd take him over Halladay any day of the week. Not saying Halladay isn't good.

What are you talking about? If this trade goes through, Lee is heading to Seattle.

Most likely, yes he is. I'm just saying if by chance Lee stays they are going to be huge favorites. Nothing is a done deal yet.

As a Mariners fan, I'm lovin' it. Hell, Lee has killed the M's the past few years. I was at the game in Cleveland a couple years ago and just watched as Lee embarrassed the M's.

Maybe Lee has a preference for the American League (doesn't like to hit) and would want to resign with an AL ball club after this year?

Toronto got nothing out of the deal, expect Halladay's money off the books.

Not that this is much of a surprise, but WKNR reported before the Lee trade that Lee told the Indians that he would pretty much sign with the highest bidder. Maybe the Phils thought that they couldn't compete with the offers he would demand.

Well, good for him--he deserves to get paid.

I don't hold anything against any of these players for "getting paid". My issue is when they say it isn't about the money....it is just a laughable statement.

Yeah, not sure why anyone would say that. If I were a pro I would say it's very much about the money--they say it because fans freak out. What some fans don't realize is it isn't JUST a game. It's their profession--you mean to tell me your job isn't all about the money? lol

Lee wants market value, so he will be tougher to re-sign and will be more expensive. Halladay will sign for less than market. They are getting a pitcher (who imo is slightly less dominant than Lee) but for a much better deal.

I'm not sure this deal works out well for either club. Lee was amazing for Philly. I'd hold on to him even if it meant getting Halladay. Lee had a better 2nd half than halladay did this past year

What did Toronto get? A box of condoms, Chipotle gift card, and a decent player or two?

Halladay was hurt during the second half but was on pace in the first half to be the potential AL Cy Young winner before he went down. Personally, if I were the Phillies I would keep Lee and dump Hamels but Lee does want more money than Halladay does. Halladay and Hamels will be tough but Halladay and Lee would have made them instant favorites to win the NL.
