I have been in two bank robbery situation. One was with a hostage and a gunman. I was able to talk to the criminal to release the hostage (old guy, was going to have heart failure or heat exhaustion) in exchange for me. After the hostage was let out of the car (surrounded by police, state highway, country and FBI) the criminal gave himself up and dropped the gun and got out of the car … I waved the FBI over and walked away. It’s a long story of how I because so close to the situation and was able to speak to the hostage and gunman.

In this situation there were 50 more Police all fixed on this one car with the criminal and hostage inside. If the bank robber would have pulled the trigger on the hostage or made an aggressive move a hale of bullets would have followed most likely kill both. The other fact that because the car was surrounded there would have been cross fire and friend fire injuries.

After view the crowbar shooting watching to first Officer fired five round and the second office delayed react with 4 more shot with the crinaml on the ground ..

Leads me to think that in situation like this and the bank robbery I was in, there should be primary shooters. One or two Officers as the primary shooters to take this guy down if required and the others as back up.

Anyone in law enforcement care to comment?
Is there a protocol … ?

Same thing happened to me, except there were 2 hostages and 51 police officers. Once the hostages were out, I waved over Seal Team 6 to take care of the situation.

But think about this thread...

In a give situation we see multiple police open fire with the potential of addition harm to others in the area. Bullet just don't stop once they miss the target.

Should there be some protocol of who is the police shooters?

Crowbar weilding guy, five police officers surrounding him.. if all five open fire what the potential damage to other officers and the public?

Should there be a proptocol of who ( one or two) primary officers as the main shooters in this situation and not all five?

"Who's the Officer shooters"???

Yeah, like I'm admitting to this on a public forum. Nice try, but you're not fooling me that easily!

Why would you substitute your self for some elderly guy with health problems? He probably died later that afternoon, anyways.
A mother and children I'd understand but not some old guy with one foot already in the grave. Heck, even the SWAT team would have considered him an acceptable civilian loss.

I was in a bank robbery once. The robber had 8 pounds of C4 loaded to each hostage and the detonating trigger was a spring loaded dead man switch.
The robber continued to call me an arsehole. Luckily, their was an stainless steel light fixture which was easily flattened and sharpened to an edge.

I handed the robbers hand to the police officer, still holding the spring loaded dead man switch.
