WARNING! The picture in the following link IS NOT for the easily disturbed.

http://www.watoday.com.au/world/woman-attacked-by-chimp-reveals-face-on-oprah-20091112-iasz.html
The February 16 attack occurred when the animal's owner, Sandra Herold, asked Nash, her friend and employee, to help lure the animal back into her house in Stamford, Connecticut. The chimpanzee ripped off Nash's hands, nose, lips and eyelids.

Police shot and killed the animal. Nash has been hospitalised since. She remains in stable condition at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Nash told Winfrey that she is not in pain, but can't breathe through her nose and has to eat through a straw. She said she doesn't touch her face very often.

I don't mean this to sound mean, but at least she can't see herself. To me that would be a blessing. Poor woman.

chimp lady: Doctor, do I have a mark on my face? It really hurts.
Doctor: Nope, nothing.
chimp lady: My shoulder doesn't hurt very much, but my face does.
[points to huge bruised area on her face]
chimp lady: Right here. Not here or here so much. Right here.
Doctor: Nope. Ship shape!
nurse: what can I get
[pause]
nurse: Jesus, what happened to your face?
chimp lady: I knew it!

I read that she had a previous run in with the chimp before this attack. The Chimp ripped a big chunk of her hair out. The owner just laughed it off. I guess no one is laughing now.

wow.

I'm wondering if she can't get a face replacement?
Another woman who got shot in the face had one done and came out alright. So, just wondering?

I would think that their needs to be considerably more healing there. It wouldn't due any good to transplant skin to unhealthy tissue. It can be hard enough getting skin grafts to "take", as any transplant is highly susceptible to infection. The further along in the healing process she gets, the more likely candidate she would become, IMO.

Chimps are actually much stronger than us. An adult chimp is five times stronger than a human being, and they reach their physical maturation at age five.

I know in movies and TV shows they seem cute and playful, but it is likely that the chimp in the show is a very young chimp. Young chimps (under 5) tend to be playful and less powerful than adult chimps. Adult chimps are also very temperamental and at times extremely volatile.

No, I'm not Jack Hanna - I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. ;)

(Actually, I took an anthropology class and had to do a presentation on chimps)

A chimp can do a lat-pulldown, with one-arm, using 1500lbs......Do not mess w/ a Chimp or any other Great Ape, for that matter.

The chimp was 200 pounds, I can't even imagine going through that. It's good for her that she doesn't remember anything.

I thought Oprah's interview was quite poor.

I hope this woman keeps improving and gets the transplant/plastic surgery she needs.
