I'm watching Game 1 of the ALDS between the Indians-Red Sox on MLB Network and it just reminded me: He might have been the biggest asshole and he was probably jacked on steroids, but Albert Belle not winning the '95 AL MVP is still just unfathomable to me. Luckilly it ended coming out in this series as Mo Vaughn ended up dropping an absolute egg.

So what are some of your other robberies for end of season awards?

I can't agree more...Belle's 1995 season was one of the greatest offensive seasons in the history of the game. He was robbed because he was a jerk, plain and simple.

.317 AVG
50 HR
52 Doubles
126 RBI
.690 SLG
1.091 OPS

All in a 144 game season. If he plays 16 more games, his numbers are probably somewhere around .320/56HR/140 RBI

One of the greatest seasons ever, but he pissed off the media too much. It def was one of the biggest snubs ever.

Also..........HOW IN THE HELL DID THAT TEAM NOT WIN THE WHOLE DAMN THING???!!!!

I know that Atlanta had great pitching, but that Tribe team was sooooooo loaded.

If by "great pitching" you mean "the best pitching staff in the history of the game over an extended period of time", then I agree.

But then, the real question is how Atlanta didn't win more than one World Series in all those years.

Joey caused this himself with his temper tantrums towards the media. His 50/50 that year was all the press could talk about, yet he gets snubbed for the MVP award. He only had himself to blame.

That group was fun to watch, and the Jake was THE place to be for baseball. But the staff was a geriatric group, and in the end the Braves took advantage to win it. Jim Poole serving the dinger to Justice was so hard to watch.

In 1988, Darryl Strawberry finished second in the NL MVP race to Kirk Gibson, which was a complete sham!

Bear in mind, these numbers were HUGE back then: Strawberry led the Mets to the NL East crown, hitting .269 with 39 HRs and 101 RBI.

Gibson won the MVP after hitting .290 with 25 HR and 76 RBI. The Straw man got the hose!

During the steroid era that used to be an average first half of the season for guys. Crazy to think that stat line actually won an MVP.

With baseball always being about pitching, pitching and pitching.....why didn't the Braves win more titles?????


As for the why the Tribe didn't win any...lack of an ACE! There hitting could overcome the weaker teams, but not top tier.

Gotta agree with Belle being the biggest snub I've ever seen. I can still remember how pissed off I was when the announcement was made. I know how he treated the media, BUT still no excuse for the screw job.

I would probably agree that this is the reason that Belle didn't win but to me it's the most tired argument. What does Belle's treatment have to do with his performance on the field? Exhibit A is Barry Bonds. Always treated the media terribly but it didn't stop him from racking up the MVP's over the years. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Nash winning that year was the ultimate proof that the majority of voters think your team has to be one of the best, if not the best teams in the league to win the award. Nash should have finished behind both Kobe and LeBron that year but because the Lakers and Cavs weren't tops in the league, the two were left out.

But the media had an option.....Mo, who was a media darling at the time. Not to mention the market that he played in.
