Pirates do not tender an offer to Gas-can Capps after failing to come up with a new contract and let him become a free agent. After last years disaster, can't say I'm surprised.
It's surprising that they just let him go and didn't get anything in return. Then again, not saying the Pirates would have gotten much.
That said, i wouldn't be surprised if he goes on and is the Reliever of the Year for someone else.
Bucs also cut Phil Dumatrait.

I'd guess this decision was made easier with the way Hanrahan (who has some closing experience) pitched down the stretch (as well as how Meek generally did until going on the 60-day DL).
I don't like getting rid of young guys who have shown ability for nothing, but let's face it.....Capps wasn't worth much after last season. Keeping him around in the hopes that he'll "right the ship" isn't the sort of thing a team in their position can really afford to do, especially when they have so many weak areas on their roster already.
