Waynedale has Stanley, Ice, and Staggs. They might make noise as freshman pending where they land with weight next year.

I think probably the 3 most notable 7th graders in the league may be:

Smi: Kelbly
Nor: Steiner
Way: Ice

They should be fun to watch in the next few years.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty familiar with the Northwestern Middle School team. Team is pretty solid especially in the lower weights. Standing out to me are Cayse (110) and Clark (116). Right behind them are several solid kids...

There are some tough kids coming up through. Smithville has Ours at 205 that could make some noise as a Freshman, Norwayne saw Moore move up and should be making noise this year as a Freshman. Waynedale should have some good people coming up as well, you have Ice, Stanley, Wirth, Hostetler, Wilson, and Wellman. Northwestern has some tough Junior high wrestlers as well, and most notable at Doyelstown is Hall, which should also make some noise. The next few years should be exciting to watch.

I used to see Bryson Hall at Wadsworth all the time. I assume Garrett is going there now as well. I know many Rittman wrestlers have went to Wadsworth as well. Lester from Waynedale goes to Akron Wrestling and Burnett's. He's a tough 7th grader. Ice from Waynedale works out at AWC too. Staggs was 2nd at Philo (ohio's jr ironman) last weekend.

Bryson's little brother Garrett is mine (middle school coach) at Chippewa. He is having a really good season and should go deep at states this year. Above some of you mentioned good 7th grade wrestlers. I have a 110 lb kid named Joe Koontz. He rock solid and has only had one loss in real matches this year (he locked hands twice early in the season and lost by one. He later beat the same kid in the same tournament). He also wrestled Steiner from Norwayne and lost 4-2 in an exhibition match. Steiner had 6 lbs on him and Joe made one mistake. He is definitely someone to keep an eye on.

He is the one that wrestled Triway's 122 the other night correct? and yeah he is very talented he wrestled my 1st year kid in the finals at Norwayne. Koontz is very good.

Also, beast, Waynedayle has all solid kids as well, they are looking to keep that winning tradition alive!!! hopefully a few state championships from them in the next few years :) also they look to keep the domination of the county alive as well..

Some thoughts on the Jr High tournament

The top programs each have at least a few good wrestlers coming on the horizon all though numbers overall are weak. Personally I wish the WCL would get rid of boys basketball "B" teams. I think all this does is prolong the inevitable which is that these guys aren't basketball players anyway, when they get to high school they don't play basketball (not good enough) and don't wrestle (they feel its to late to start) Understand this is wrestlings problem, not bball. Make your wrstling program stronger and you probably dont have this problem anyway.

Stanley 8th and Ice 7th are the real deal at Waynedale Ice was a youth state champ,OYWA and second at OAC. Stanley is just a beast plus they have Staggs boys coming so they are loaded. ALso have a nice complimentary group of kids.

Northwestern won the tournament more because of numbers than anything but I believe this is the 3rd one in a row for them so compliments to them. Cayse (8th) over Koonz (7th- Chipp) was a good match. They have some other good wrestlers but no one really stood out. Just solid as always.

The other programs need work, Smithville with Kelby 7th and Ours 8th have two nice heavies, Ours will be good and Kelby might cause the locals to forget about his brother if he progresses. He had a heckave of a throw to beat Stika Nor in the finals. Hall at Chipp will keep his family in the news for some time as he is real solid, His only losses this year is to Briggs at Cloverleaf, Steiner (7th) at Nor ended the year undefeated as was Cayse and Ours. He was a state champ last year in OYWA and second in the state at OAC as was Ice. Solid kid needs to keep working.

Overall a good group of kids, Chipp has a nice nucleaus as well, told Norwayne had a bunch of injuries and Dalton, Hills and rittman all working hard. Kudous also to Gault at Rittman as he won their first title in years.
