In a Washington Post Interview, Joe Paterno affirmed reports that McQueary was not specific in describing what he allegedly saw, and he told The Post that even if he did, "I don't know that it would have done any good, because I never heard of, of, rape and a man. "
Say what? Joe Pa never saw the movie "Deliverance"?
If McQueary told Paterno he saw Sandusky raping a woman, would Joe Pa have known what to do?

Paterno said he didn't know there was such a thing as a man raping a boy. No wonder the place is called "Happy Valley".

Here's what bothers me about Paterno's handling of this thing. He claims to have reported it to "higher authoritries" and assumed they would follow-up on it apparently absolving himself of any responsibility.According to the Post, Paterno reiterated that McQueary was unclear with him about the nature of what he saw — and added that even if McQueary had been more graphic, he's not sure he would have understood it. ''You know, he didn't want to get specific,'' Paterno said. ''And to be frank with you I don't know that it would have done any good, because I never heard of, of, rape and a man. So I just did what I thought was best. I talked to people that I thought would be, if there was a problem, that would be following up on it.''
Did Paterno confront Sandusky at the time? Why didn't he put Sandusky on adminitsrative leave pending a full investigation? Instead he allowed Sandusky to roam the sidelines...not-to-mention the showers for years following McQueary's initial reporting of the incident.
This business of Paterno not knowing men can rape men (well...boys) is absurd.
Had Paterno shit canned Sandusky at the outset and vigorously pushed an investigation rather than sweeping it under the rug and allowing Sandusky to stay on as a coach, I'd have a lot more respect for the man. Instead one of the best coaches in college football history will forever bow out with a huge Sandusky-sized cum stain on his record. Sad.

I've expressed my thoughts on this, but I really cannot fathom how anyone could defend Paterno. His actions are despicable.

Anyone defending JoPa is an idiot. What if it were their kid getting molested by Sandusky? Then they'd be calling for Paternos head too for not doing anything.
He brushed it under the rug and should pay the price for it, end of story.

article says he's wearing a wig now too. I know, I know... all you beeding hearts will say "the man has cancer asshole, he's losing his hair from the chemo." OK then I'm an asshole because a guy that's supposed to be a tough ol' bird as Paterno is supposed to be, can't go around town with a wig on, I'm sorry that just shows how whacked this derelict has become.

You are right he was retired and not roaming the sidelines but had full access to all PSU football facilities and the incident occured in the PSU lockeroom showers after 98, JoPa could have put a stop to that and didn't! Sad! How anyone can defend JoPa is beyond me!!!!!

I've started thinking of Happy Valley as the B1G's answer to the Neverland Ranch. This whole thing went from despicable (still there, kind of) to extremely bizarre.

Another absolutely amazing nugget from Paterno. He said he was never really that close to Sandusky!?!?!

I can't get the link to open. But didn't he also say after he was told he wasn't sure what to do so he waited?
I'm just amazed that people keep taking his side and I'm really really tired of his family putting out health reports trying to get sympathy on his side.

Are you saying that JoPa had no say in that or that he couldn't have requested that he stripped from his use of PSU facilities?

If JoePa utters the words "you need to ban this guy from campus" to the head of the university, 99.99% of the population would be banned from the campus without a moment's hesitation.Fab1b;1055721 wrote:Are you saying that JoPa had no say in that or that he couldn't have requested that he stripped from his use of PSU facilities?

Maybe you should read Penn State's "Emeritus Status" policy and you will have your answer but way to not answer the question.Fab1b;1055721 wrote:Are you saying that JoPa had no say in that or that he couldn't have requested that he stripped from his use of PSU facilities?

Actually he was a asked to consider resigning/retiring and Paterno said no and that he thought he could get the program back to where it was. He was right. the next year they went 10-1.pnhasbeen;1055934 wrote:Joe paterno had that power. Bc he let a rapist in his locker room? You're beyond arguing with if you think Joe Paterno didn't have the power to ban Jerry Sandusky from Penn State campus and eliminate his usage of football facilities.

I have you read Penn State's Emeritus Status Policy. You are beyond arguing with until you do.pnhasbeen;1056153 wrote:Bc he let a rapist in his locker room? Penn State Emeritus Policy wrote:#7 Access to University recreational facilities
And that doesn't really do much for me. 1) He didn't belong in Penn State football locker rooms. Those are not a part of "recreational facilities." 2) No where in that policy does it state that this is a lifelong status. So, again, Joe Paterno who had a great amount of power had the influence to keep Jerry Sandusky off Penn State campus.
