My son's ear flared up a week ago he practiced and wrestled thru it. Then it increased in pain so went to the doc got it drained yesterday. Doc said keep an eye on make sure does not get infected may need antibiotic. Today coincidentally a girl in his class playfully slapped him and connected dead it on his ear. Its filled up again of course. I will tt doc tomorrow. Any suggestions how to help would be great. Would it be best to sit him out for a couple weeks do treatment? He would miss one invitational and possibly a dual but would be worth it for healthy outcome rest of the season. He is an SQ and has high hopes this year of course. Appreciate everyones input.

Once the damage is done, it's done. Keep wrestling with headgear and suggest he wear a longer hairstyle the rest of his life.

Right now it is in his inner area of his ear. Just do not want it to take over his whole ear while inflamed.

Save your money and drain it yourself......plenty of how-to videos on Youtube. I became an expert at it last season with my son.

My son has about 6 stitches from getting drained last week after Medina.
Hasnt missed a workout. He got his headgear padded up.

i consulted a top ear doctor after my sons first ear trauma his junior year and the doctor stated that if he was going to continue wrestling within four months that he would not do procedure because it would be useless. Followed his advice and had surgery after season.w Same thing happened mid way through senior year and again we followed his advice and had surgery after the season.He is now 20 and his ears have very little visible damage.He did not wrestle after high school which probably helped quite a bit.We just made sure he wore new good quality headgear always especially when drilling.Hope this helps

Some times its the headgear that causes it when not fitted correctly. The "Halo" style headgear we had back in the day chewed many an ear up on our team. Just part of the sport with or without headgear.

Thanks for the advice, actually he wears headgear 95% of the time the 5% got him. He has worn Cliff Keen for last three years. cthelites what did you use to pad up that stays in place good?

I agree, went through this last year with my son, it's amazing but 90% of kids don't wear the headgear at practice. We told my son if he steps out on the mat without his headgear he is done wrestling for good. Problem solved, he goes to bed with it LolCon_Alma;1039507 wrote:Where the headgear!!!! Same with mine. Our coach makes the kids wear them in practice. The coach just cut out some soft foam and cut a hole for extra cushioning/protection till the stitches dissolve.
Our 106 had the same thing 2 weeks ago.

we always just padded up a spare headgear for me at practice to keep it form getting worse, but i never got it drained, and then again, you can hardly tell i have it unless its pointed out or if someone feels my ears..luckily that isn't common practice in society today

I deal with this every day in business meetings, thought my right ear was cool looking when I was a kid. However now, in a business situation I find people constantly looking at my ear wondering what's wrong with me. " Well there is alot wrong with me but my ear has nothing to do with it" When u get out of the wrestling world into the real world sometimes people don't understand, that's what I try and tell my kid's.queencitybuckeye;1040236 wrote:/thread
