Holmgren: Biggest measuring stick is
wins
by Marty Gitlin, CBSSports.com
Team president Mike Holmgren on how he’ll measure improvement this year: “The
first thing is record. Then things we did poorly last year, like drops, running
game productivity, not as many sacks, more interceptions ... those are
measurable that will tell you if the team is doing things right.”

Holmgren expects Brown to make
'healthy jump' in wins this year
by Marty Gitlin, CBSSports.com
Team president Mike Holmgren said he regretted upon arriving in Cleveland
saying that a 5-11 record was unacceptable. Then he reiterated it. “I shouldn’t
have said that. Honestly, of course it’s not acceptable. I would say the same
thing now. I told the coaches I expect us to take a healthy jump this year.” The
Browns regressed to 4-12 in 2011.

Team president Mike Holmgren on what makes him believe in rookie QB Brandon
Weeden: “He passes the ball very well, does it easily, has good velocity ... but

Holmgren: How good are RB
Richardson's blocking skills?
by Marty Gitlin, CBSSports.com
Team president Mike Holmgren on his expectations of rookie RB Trent
Richardson. “As a runner the transition to come into the league is as easy as
any position on the team. Running is kind of instinctual. You get hit in
college. The learning curve is not as great. His challenge is as a pass
blocker.”

Holmgren: No plan to trade or release
McCoy, Wallace
by Marty Gitlin, CBSSports.com
There is no plan to trade or release Colt McCoy or Seneca Wallace. “The
[last] two years we had to go to our third quarterback because of injury,” team
president Mike Holmgren said. Wallace said he would “

robably not” accept being
relegated to the third spot.
One of the things that I didn't see mentioned was Holmgren's assessment of the receivers. Yes, he said they had their drops but he also said to say they "weren't open downfield" was false. He said "they were open, we just didn't get them the ball." When asked about all of the short routes (check downs) he said that "the receivers were open (implying downfield) the quarterback just chose to throw those passes." Read into that what you want but I REALLY don't think the receivers were as bad as advertised. I expect them to pleasantly surprise people this year.
