I'm signed up for the 10:00 Saturday wave. Some of you said you'd be down for a Team OC or something like that. Get yourselves signed up.

It's okay they sell spectator passes for people who are afraid of mud and cold.

Afraid of mud and cold? Newsflash: It's a competition for faux tough guys. I can run through mud, I'm not paying someone for me to do it.

It's a race that is pretty damned difficult and raises a boatload of money for a great charity. I don't see why you're QQing about it so much.

So you don't like our troops or something?

What I mean is, what makes them a bad charity in your mind?

No, he doesn't.

He also doesn't believe they make any sacrifices.

They are normal people who get paid fair market value for their duties. No more sacrifice than anyone else.

I mean, I'm about as anti-war as you can get. Just look at my posts in the politics forum or come talk to me. But I have tremendous respect for our troops and feel that when they're hurt from combat or service we should take care of them. Surprised sleeper doesn't support this private (IE: Freemarket) approach to supporting injured veterans. Seems right up his alley.

They profit(they'll call it "surplus") from the injuries and problems with our troops from a needless war. I never said they are a bad charity, just not a great charity.

The charity doesn't profit from anything. They give rehab services and shit like clothes and stuff to soldiers that are in the hospital.

And I just looked at their financial statements and they are relatively lean as far as administrative expenses and such go.

Yep I'm learning. Not bad for an average person that worked 4 years on sophisticated Aircraft that made a base pay of $1001.00 a month after 4 years of Service. I still wonder what Delta/American Airlines/TWA would have payed back then to work on their less sophisticated aircraft...probably the same fair market value.

I may do it with my wife and uncle.

I think we are looking at doing a Warrior Dash before a Tough Mudder though.

I just looked and all the Warrior Dash events start after this, apparently they only do summer/warm month events. Those are a great introduction to adventure/obstacle races. Not too long, warm.

Either way you'll have fun. Tough Mudder you will get much more help from other people though. It's almost absurd how much people help each other at these things.

I'd rather do the warmer events. I am not much into running in cold weather/water -- heck, running in general. My wife, uncle, and I will end up doing a Tough Mudder, but since we have yet to get into ANY of these sort of events...we'd like to start out a little smaller.

That's a good idea and you should enjoy it. I know I did. There are two Ohio events for Warrior Dash this year. Warrior Dash has a much more "this is a party" atmosphere with the food, bands, bonfires, etc. If you have the time available I think camping at the sight would be fun. I know they allowed that at the Carrollton one this year and it would have been nice to be able to hang out an drink a bunch without having to drive/be driven home.

lol! That's funny. How long would it take you to finish one of these events, sleeper?

Tough Mudder would mean training and not just an inspirational run. Trying a "warrior dash" first is a good idea.

___ This is just nutsack crazy. 24-hour tough mudder. ouch!

[h=1]World’s Toughest Mudder 2011[/h] [h=3]A Non-stop 24-Hour Tough Mudder designed to find the TOUGHEST human being on the planet[/h] World’s Toughest Mudder is the culminating event of the 2011 Tough Mudder Event Series, and will be a two-day challenge with one goal: to find the toughest man or woman on the planet. When the mud settles on December 18, one person will have bested over 150,000 Mudders for the right to call him or herself the World’s Toughest Mudder!
Here’s how it’s going down: WTM competitors will have 24 hours to complete as many laps of the course as they can. At the 24 hour mark, all competitors must complete the lap they are on. The event’s winner will be whichever participant has completed the greatest total number of laps in the allotted 24 hours. The winner must still be on the course at 24 hours (not stopped or disqualified). In the event that multiple participants complete the Winner’s Total, the winner will be whichever participant crossed the finish line of their final lap first.

This event is a competition, with the winner being crowned World’s Toughest Mudder and receiving a cash prize of US$10,000. Participants will be required to wear timing chips and will be subject to the event’s official rules. That said, participants are strongly encouraged to help each other make it through the course as with any Tough Mudder event.
CAUTION: Of those that begin the event, only 10% are expected to finish. Only those in extreme PHYSICAL and MENTAL condition should even think about attempting to enter.

Why go run around in mud for 2 days when sleeper can make $10k in a few hours?
