Can anyone help me out with this?

I'm interested in purchasing a Nike+ for my boss. She has an iPod nano. I heard I need to get her the one with the "adapter."

I'm also interested in getting one for myself. I, however, have an iPhone. Is it tre that I only need tr sensor then? I believe I would need to download the app (which I believe is like $2.99 or something).

My questions are:

Does anyone have any experience with using these/this?

How long do the sensors last?

Do I just need to purchase the sensor (since I have an iPhone) or should I get the one with the adapter?

Basically I'm looking for any advise/feedback on experiences with Nike+.

I do. I don't know of she does, but I know there are sleeves that you can buy to put the sensors in instead of having the Nike+ shoes.

Then for you all you need is the sensor and the app for your iPhone. I've had mine since probably March and its still working fine. I don't have any idea on that sleeve thing for people that dot have the shoes though.

That's one of my questions as well. I've been told it works on gps, but then I don't understand how it could possibly work then on like say a treadmill or something.

I'm not sure on that, it does work on treadmills though.

You could always buy a real phone instead of the iPhone.

You seem to start a thread about the iPhone every day. I thought iPhone's "just work"? Guess not.

I'm not sure how the Nike+ works, but if you're interested in cycling, Motorola has a product called the MotoACTV that does work via GPS and will work with cycling. Somewhat pricey, though.

Thanks, but since I'll be owning a Nano soon, I want to know how Nike+ works.

Don't buy the Nano and get the ACTV instead. You can store your music just like on a Nano. Plus, you have the exercise capabilities built in.

I had one, and the sensor died rather quickly. It's hard to know if you actually manage to turn it off. I had a few runs with it, and it seemed to be decent at tracking them, though I know one of them was about .1 mi off from the actual mileage I ran.


I used it with a Nano, and had the chip for my shoe and a receiver sort of thing for the ipod. It looks like the end of the charger and just clips in. It can be a pain with some cases.


When I was looking at them before I purchased, I do recall that you did not need the receiver for the Iphone.

I dont know the costs and all but I would probably suggest a GPS watch instead. I have a Garmin and, compared to a friend who uses the Nike plus thingy, seems to be more accurate when we compare the times, distances and such on known distance runs.

You can have different 'modes' to put it in so if ya want ya can have a cycling and running mode. I know I was toggling between the two during training for duathlons.

I guess nike plus has a sensor for the shoe or you can wear it? Still you are 'stuck' with the apple technology and such.

I know my GPS watch ya can hook up to the computer to download your runs and such. I program different workouts on the watch and such, and diff type of alerts. A few of the other people in our group have had the nike plus thing over the years and have all migrated to the GPS watch.

For myself, I purchased one of the sensors ($19.99, I believe). I'm not sure I need the sensor since I have an iPhone 4 (apparently the GPS function on the phone might be able to do the same thing without the need of a sensor?)?!

The Nike+ GPS app is something like $1.99 (I believe) on Apples App Store.

The thing is with that though.....do you really wanna bring your Iphone with ya on a run? It is big and bulky, ya run the risk of dropping it, if the weather isnt great ya can get the Iphone wet and such. Also, running is a great time to untether oneself, and to relax the mind from all of it. PLus, if you have your phone with ya there is that urge to check it or get calls and such. I know of people who have ran with their Itouch before and listen to music and such and really didnt like having that honking thing with ya.

I see from the ad at the top of the thread, Garmin watches are $120 to $150 a piece.

I think I'll just add the Nike+ to my Nano.

If they help motivate you to work out, go for the Nike +. Hopefully you continue to work out for more then 2-3 months and upgrade to a pair of quality athletic shoes later.

Yeah, I saw that too. I bought the garmin 305 two years ago for less than those prices so I am not sure whats the deal with those prices. The newer ones are usually 130+ but the older models arent that expensive usually. the newer ones are touch..havnt heard good stuff about them.

Quality shoes are in the eyes of the beholder. There are the shoe snobs who always think they have to buy the different type of brands other than the Nike's and such. Some who always buy the most expensive etc.

I have owned many different companies shoes. Usually stick with the same model until they change or discontinue it. Have ran with some Nike's taht I have hated, and also some that I have loved. When the discontinue I head to the running store to test out new brands.

To dismiss Nike just because they are nike is as ignorant as just assuming the most expensive shoes are the best, or because someone else recommended a pair of shoes and getting them without testing them out. Some are good, some are bad, just like all brands.

I am currently running with New Balance which I am sure shoe snobs would be terrified about, but they are light and comfortable.

How big is this "chip", I hear that you can just put it in your shoelaces.

Had a pair of NB once. Loved them. They discontinued them and didnt have a good enough replacement so I switched at the time.
I always find it a little bit funny, when I am in the market for a new pair of running shoes, and I take it seriously because they really can make or break ya, I make a list of 4-5 that I read about online and from friends and such. I usually get to the store, try them all out and most times end up with something totally diff that wasnt on my radar. It is just that everyone is so different when it comes to running, and that is why there are sooo many diff types of running shoes. I am no expert but I do get alot of people who have asked me for advice and what ones to buy and at first they dont always understand what I mean when each and every person has to find that out on their own. Best advice is head to a running store, maybe two, and try out as many as possible. If it is a place that doesnt allow you to run on a treadmill, or outside, then they are truly not a running store. Some feel great walking, but running is a diff story.

Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. I use the App on my iPhone. You don't need the sensor at all for you, just the app. I have heard mixed reports on the sensor for the shoes. The app is good, and gives you pretty good feedback for your run. If you like music while you run, here is some advice, make a specific running playlist. If you don't, it will shuffle through all the songs on your phone (even the slow ones), and constantly skipping songs is kind of annoying (it is to me at least).
