The 80's turned out to be one of the better eras of NBA basketball. And, teams were allowed to play PHYSICAL defense. It certainly didn't cater to the offensive player like it does now.
This. The NBA in the 80's and early 90's was a much better product than today's game. For one, defense in the 80's was played, not just encouraged like in today's game. Number 2, rivalries, team and personal. There is absolutely nothing close in todays game to the Boston/LA rivalry or Miller vs. New York. I miss the days when Larry Bird and Chuck Person would talk trash to each other all game, while dropping 35-40pts a piece. Today's NBA game is a joke compared to the 80's/90's.

Also, no doubt LeBron is the best individual player in the league today. Kyrie will be a superstar, but he's not LeBron.

If basketball was better "back in the day", then why isn't Wilt Chamberlain considered the GOAT?

He's certainty up there. But he played in the 60s not the 80s/early 90s. Quit trying to twist words.

No. You can't have it both ways. You can't on one hand say "it was better back in the day" and then on the other hand say "well Jordan played in the best era". Its unsubstantiated. Jordan would ride the bench on the Bobcats this season, there's no doubt about it(kidding guys QQ elsewhere). Today's athletes are bigger, faster, stronger, and start playing competitive basketball right out of the womb. I'll take that over anything allegedly better in the past. It's the nostalgia effect. It's a well document psychological phenomena designed to make old farts feel special.

Melo, Bron, Wade, Rose, Howard are the starters.

Bosh is a reserve, which is fine. But Andy should DEFINITELY be a reserve also.

MJ got 20+ a game at the age of 40. He would be the starting 2 guard on every single NBA team right now if he was at a playing age.

I think Andy deserves to be a reserve, but I understand him not being on the team.

You made the claim, please prove it.

Or is that just an opinion? If it's an opinion, please state as such.

If Jordan Crawford can dunk on Lebron James I am pretty sure MJ would have no trouble playing in todays NBA. Lebron couldn't play in the 80's NBA because it would be way too physical for him.

Never said the players of today weren't bigger, faster, and stronger. However, that doesn't make the product on the court better.

So dunking on someone equates to being able to play consistently at a certain level? Interesting. Lebron would be bigger and stronger than most 4's in that era, you act like because the rules were different and there were rough rivalries that he wouldn't be able to play in that era, just silly.

You give those athletes back in the 80's the nutritional guidelines, workout equipment/regimens, and trainers that we have today and you'd see the same results.

You act like the athletes in the 80's were small and fragile and couldn't jump or some shit... The argument is just stupid as fuck.

DR. J was every bit as athletic as LeBron... Clyde, Girvin, etc...

Dr J was not as athletic as Lebron, you have never seen anyone that size move that way. Not saying there weren't great athletes back then because there were. Top to bottom there is no comparison though imo. Anyone who has played the game knows how much of a difference athleticism makes, even minuscule.

Dude, do you ALWAYS have to defend Lebron? You won't even allow someone to make fun of his hair line.

Athleticism goes a long way in bball but it's not the only thing that matters. I have played ball against plenty of athletic guys that suck at basketball.

So Dr J is a better athlete than Lebron, yes or no? Has nothing to do with me defending Lebron, that point is wrong.

LOL, you're a fucking idiot. Are you SQ?

Please tell me Dr J is not athletic? Dr J was 6'7''... 1 inch shorter than LeBron. Also, where did ANYONE say Dr. J was more athletic?

I never said Dr J wasn't athletic. You claimed he was every bit as athletic as Lebron which is just flat out wrong. Name call all you want but that claim is wrong, "idiot".
