I'm thinking of taking my mom this weekend to see the Christmas lights. I have never been before and just wanted to see if anyone who's been there could answer a couple questions. My mom is in her late 60's and doesn't like to walk long distances. Is the tour a driving tour or walking tour or both. How far is the casino from the lights. Where are the best places to eat. How long does it take to see all the lights. I was hoping to stay the night but their booked is there anywhere nice to stay close by if not we can drive back to Columbus that night. Thanks ahead of time.

The Oglebay festival of lights is a driving tour. It takes about an hour to go through because of the traffic. After doing the driving tour, you can take a walking tour through the old mansion or stop in a couple of the shops. One of the shops has goods made in West Virginia. It is very nice. One of the other shops has handblown glass. Oglebay has the Wilson lodge, which is a fancy place. I went their before prom and it was good. One the way up Oglebay hill, there is a place called Stratford Springs. It is pretty good. Plus, the Casino has a really fancy restaurant called the Pointe and a pretty good buffet. If you want a sports bar, TJ's Sports Garden is nice for sandwiches and sports. Coleman's Fish is out of the way for either the casino or Oglebay, but for lunch, their fish is the best. There is a nice Hampton Inn about five minutes from Oglebay, or you could stay at the Casino (which is about 10 minutes from Oglebay). Here are some links for the resaurants and hotel. Enjoy your stay.

I wouldn't recommend the walking tour if your mom is not a walker. There are some seriously steep hills there.

If you do the walking tour but your mom is in a wheelchair, remember a video camera.Little Danny;1016259 wrote:I wouldn't recommend the walking tour if your mom is not a walker. There are some seriously steep hills there.
