I beg to differ since they probably wouldn't fight each other. Machida has one or two more fights before he gets another shot at Jones. Then if he would lose that and drop down he'd be on a new contract. I assume they would give him a tough but not truly top flight fight for his first at the new wait and then either give him a shot then or one more then a shot. At that point I think Silva is either retired or would go up in weight to fight Jones before he retires.

I've said for a long time now that I think Machida is a better fighter than Anderson and is more complete. Anderson is one of the greatest of all time without question but he also has fought in the weakest division in the UFC over the last 5 years. There's no one that Anderson has beat that Machida couldn't beat equally or more impressively. I mean can you imagine what he would due to guys like Damian Maia, Okami, Marquardt, Leben and guys like that, it wouldn't be pretty. 205 is top heavy but the top guys are all elite and superior to the 185's by far imo. There is a reason that guys like Stann and Bisping made the cut to 185, and it isn't because they like to cut weight.

Robj all good points but silva also crushed some guys at 205 with ease. I think you could make the argument that guys like machida don't cut the weight to avoid silva. His division is weak as hell though. I just think silva fights with the same quickness and explosiveness as jones but silva has the pinpoint accuracy to knock you out with any strike he throws. I do see your side of the argument though. One thing though is silva has fought Dan Henderson, Belfort, And rich Franklin who could give machida good fights.

He beat James Irvin and Forrest who is a slow LHW, but I see your points, my point wasn't that Anderson couldn't beat guys at 205. Machida gave Rich Franklin his first loss when he was 14-0 by brutal knockout(front kick and left hand combination). It's all a moot point because no amount of money could never get them to fight.

I'm interested in how Brock comes out and performs after another lay off. His conditioning in some of his last few fights has been questionable at best as is.

It seems he's become much more humble though, and I do hope he's back. It's just better for the HW division.

Agreed, he gassed bad in the Cain fight.
Everyone always harps on his stand up but if you watch that Cain fight he was fine on his feet early. It didn’t look pretty but he was doing OK. Cain then took him down, and landed some punches when Brock was working back to his feet. Right when he finally gets all the way up his does that weird thing where he stumbles across the cage while spinning and falls back down without ever taking a punch. He either gassed really bad, or the punches Cain landed on the ground rocked him. I think he gassed.

^^^He got rocked when he shot in for a takedown. That's why he spun across the cage like he did. One thing people forget from that fight is that Brock did get up again after getting the piss beat out of him.
