What do you guys think of that? I could put one up on each forum for a while so they are right there in your face and there is no excuse for breaking them.

I like it.

One of the problems with JJHuddle towards the end was the vagueness of the rules and how they were enforced. The biggest problem was just even trying to find the rules in the first place.

So you might want to provide examples of what crosses the line as far as being a douchebaggery or what excessive use of profane language would be.

Alright, lets go through and come up with a good set of rules for each forum. We will start with the general forum.

Here they are as they currently stand:

1.) No threats, keep it civilized. You can call someone out for saying something stupid, just don't make it personal.
2.) Don't reveal someone's identity. I am sure most of us are on facebook and don't really care but don't do it/
3.) No nudity (let's keep it work safe)
4.) Limit the cussing (mostly the f-bomb). I'm not going to filter any words but unless you are quoting a movie or something keep it at a minimum.

I like rule #1, I think it should stay as is and remain rule #1.

I would like to come up with some better ways to word the other 3 rules.

Also, let me know if there are other rules you would like added or whatever.

Does don't reveal someone's identity include revealing if someone has multiple usernames? I know there were posters on JJ that had multiple usernames at the same time or were someone else previously till they got gonged. Would calling them out as the same poster be against rule #2?

I'd say that would be fair game. We could make a rule for not creating multiple user names and then getting called out for doing it is fair game.

2. Do not reveal someone's identity. If you want us to know who you are feel free to tell, but give everyone else that freedom as well.

1-3 seem fine.

The 4th one is the one that I'm unsure about. It's just hard to say what "Limit the cussing" means. At what point are the mods supposed to intervene?

Is it if someone really starts to go on a streak of cussing? Or is it if someone just cusses a lot more than the average poster?

3. Keep it safe for work. That means no nudity, no swearing in thread titles and limiting the swearing as much as possible in posts. Profanity isn't banned but swearing just for the sake of swearing is kind of annoying.

Thoughts?

I can't decide what to do with the f-bomb. I just had a poster use it in the poli forum, and I think it makes you sound ignorant if you use it in an argument.

I think the f bomb is the only word that should be censored personally.

Filter it so that it shows up as something like f***?

We could, but it doesn't stop people from using it. I'm not going to make the poli forum any stricter on language than the rest of the forums.

LJ gocheifs and I put a PG warning on the HS football thread, so don't feel bad about being somewhat strict.

Eh, but there really is no reason to be PG in there (poli) other than it makes people sound ignorant.

Like a poster said that Obama should tell someone to F off..

Now really, is it bad that he used the word? No, but does it really help make the point? Not at all.

Good point. Maybe tell them to just use common sense.

Ok, here are the 3 rules for the general forum.

1.) No threats, keep it civilized. You can call someone out for saying something stupid, just don't make it personal.
2. Do not reveal someone's identity. If you want us to know who you are feel free to tell, but give everyone else that freedom as well.

Yeah, that is the plan. I wish I would have known about it earlier.

Everyone go ahead and post the rules you have/want for your forum on this thread and we finalize them before putting them up with this feature.

1. All topics must be approved by Moderator
2. If you want to start a topic relating to an article, you MUST include your opinion in the first post
3. You must be civil. Name calling will not be tolerated.
4. Abruptly blaming Bush/Obama/Charlie Sheen etc. in a topic will get your post deleted. You have been warned.
5. If you make a claim to a study, statistics, reports, etc, you MUST post a link to it.
6. Please include links on news items

+ general rules

1. No name calling or threats towards other Huddlers or student athletes.
2. No inappropriate language. If you wouldn't say it in front of a teacher or coach, don't say it here.
3. No false accusations or rumor-mongering (this includes blindly accusing private schools of recruiting).

I think those are three general ones that should apply to the high school sports forums. I understand we have a less stringent language policy here... but for the high school sections I think we should try to keep things a little more in-line.

Those are really just 3 starting suggestions for the High School sports at least, I'm definitely up for different suggestions.

Do you guys think in the Poli forum I should make it a rule that anything presented as factual needs a source? Or only when someone disputes something that has provided a source already?
