Are you a wrestling fan? A gymnastics fan? Maybe just a little bored? this week (Tomorrow, in fact!), December 7th at 7 PM is our first annual Beauty and the Beast matchup vs. Upper Arlington.

UA rolls into Lewis Center with a very, very solid and under-rated squad, led by 106 lber Kenji Gearhardt and Vito DiBenneditto. Really, they are solid from 126 and up (including Kenji at 106). The Pioneers are Cruiser-ranked but still need to prove themselves off paper. They are anchored by a large senior and junior class, including 2x state placer Artem Timchenko and DQ Dan Dawson, along with sophomore DQ Lenn's Kamba. A good match-up at 132 is anticipated with 132 UA Champ Hayden Fath vs. 138 lb UA champ Keith Neely , who is dropping for this dual. A possible 113 lb bout with the stellar Gearhardt and freshmen stud Connor Borton looms. 1st year Coach Matt Stout has these guys ready to go!

It is a home event with the goal to get some rear ends in the seats and put on a great show. The gymnasts will be out in force and competing in all four events: bars, beam, vault and floor. UA is a perennial power, while Orange won their OCC last year.

I promise plenty of spandex and non-stop action.

Does Mike Hall know about the spandex???

Wish I could make this, coach. However, I expect full results of both events to be posted somewhere.

Excellent idea.

This sounds like a neat idea.
How do you have the gym set up?
Have you done this before?
Does it draw more students?

132 for UA was K. Neely, just to avoid confusion

Decent crowd, wrestling had JV and Frosh wrestle first. Gymnastics was simultaneous with varsity wrestling. Girls did two events at a time while our guys wrestled based on first picked class (106 last night). The music from the floor routines was a little loud at times and seeing girls flip on vaults behind the wrestling mat was interesting. Both teams were introduced prior to the match so the crowd got some exposure to both sports and the kids participating in them. The announcer for the night only announced wrestling though :)

It's a brilliant idea! Brings fans together.

Speaking of combing sports into one "grand" event- Do any HS's in the C-bus area have b-ball games and wrestling duels, back-to-back?

I saw a Michigan State vs. West Virginia match that did this two years ago.

Artem and Borton both moved up for the dual as our 126 was banged up a bit. Both will be at 113 and 120, respectively, for Liberty next week.
